It has been pretty much my favorite single book ever for, like, the last 30 years. I loved the 90s Tim Curry miniseries back in the day, and I think the new pair of movies was probably the best Stephen King adaptation I’ve ever seen, except for maybe the Green Mile.
The first half of this show’s season did not feel like It, it felt like Great Value Stranger Things. They finally got their shit together in the second half I think. I don’t know why it took them so damn long to bring out Pennywise, but that’s when it finally started picking up for me.
I don’t feel like I ever really connected with the kids. There were some familiar last names but it still didn’t really feel right to me. Like it was still just some random teenagers in the 60s fighting seemingly random Monsters of the Week for a pretty good chunk of it. Big whoop.
spoiler
The Marge reveal in, iirc, episode 6, was great, but sorta too little too late.
(I tried to put that last bit in spoiler tags, I hope it works… I still left it sorta vague in case it doesn’t.)
I am really glad they’re doing it like an anthology series. I wanted to see more about the Black Spot, and I’m glad we’re going to get more about the Bradley Gang and the Kitchener explosion in the next couple go-rounds
I will absolutely give season 2 a shot when it comes out. I’m still sorta iffy on the whole thing, but they did figure things out well enough in the back 9 of the first season that I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt next time around.
I’m sort of torn.
