7·2 days agoIronically US is directly responsible for Iran’s theocracy. They overthrown Iran’s democratically elected prime minister Mohammad Mossadegh in 1953 coup because of oil. Every single issue plaguing Middle East is either diretly on indirectly via their proxies created and manufactured by the US to generate maximum profit for billionaires.

Technology@lemmy.zip•US | NY Governor Hochul signs bill requiring warning labels on ‘addictive’ social mediaEnglish
4·4 days agoAlgorithms are addictive by design. I don’t think that non-algorithmic social media is generally addictive. Forums existed since the start of the internet and they were never an issue. They are even making a comeback now that people are getting tired of algorithms telling them what to see and what to think.
After reading the issue chain, this is basically a legal ransomware. Messages on self-hosted instances are held hostage without any prior warning.
I have been warning about Mattermost for years now. They were never open source, but instead open core and that deliberate choice is clearly showcased here.
