I wouldn’t, I keep all of my data separate from my OS drive entirely so I can reformat or install a new OS whenever I feel like… nasty old habit from bootleg windows 7 well beyond its age, when reformatting every 6 months was good hygiene, before I found Linux… but gave me great data management insight.

Sure, if my active drives died after this swap, and I had to restore from the old, now backup, drive, I’d be back at the operational state I was at the time of the backup.
That tracks.
It still doesn’t run anything tho. It’s just a drive. It doesn’t house an os or anything, just files that aren’t restricted in any way.
Sure, nearly everything is on a separate drive from the OS. I don’t put much on the OS drive on any of my computers unless it needs to run there and that’s easy to reinstall. Easy to fix things that way.
What if my backup is just files and there’s nothing to restore?
Like say I take my existing drives, full of totally working media, and duplicate them, use the originals as a backup and the new drives as the active.
Does that count as a backup? No restoration involved.

2·11 days agoThat’s definitely going on my list :) thanks!
$15/hr still isn’t a living wage in most places, just for the record. It’s better than server wages for sure, but it’s not stable-life-level income.

9·11 days agoI’d like a mix of elf and dwarf with a splash of goblin, please.
I want the systems management with a huge complicated story, but also lots of collectibles around the world for no fucking reason other than to give my ADHD something to do when “build more shit and try to find the end of that fucking wire” are not engaging.
So far I’ve got oxygen not included and rimworld, I tried dwarf fortress but it’s really not my bag and I’m not sure why. I haven’t tried factorio or satisfactory because they look a bit too complicated to fully engage me (tho I’ve been watching game it out and honestly, as a result I’m trying to embrace the chaos). I’m sure I’d like them if I gave them a try, maybe. Then again I mod the shit out of my games to add more complexity to them so…
But is there a good mix of elf and dwarf games?

3·11 days agoI’ve had the same problem with them. I don’t recommend them either.
Even if they do have a warranty, they aren’t reliable enough to be worth doing the warranty claim on, imho.
I’ve gone back to the old battery style and gotten some rechargeable 9 volt.
Depends if you can stand to wear a wool turtleneck (over another shirt that keeps the wool only touching your neck).
I can’t stand any turtleneck, personally, for exactly the same reason I can’t do tags. It’s there touching me, and it feels wrong but won’t go away, and the wrongness bothers me. Even super fluffy soft fabrics are wrong on my neck.

That’s a brilliant way to blunt the reaction. Make them think it’s teen pregnancy but when they open the box, SURPRISE it’s trans!
I’ve played enough video games to know there’s either some valuable quest item in there, or a really good joke about digging in the toilet for treasures. Zero other options.
Putting an awful lot of trust in those joints…
That sucker falls, you may well get cut in half…

3·18 days agoI was thinking his hat was one of those fisherman’s hats that has the chin strap that usually is gathered up by the brim, and the pole of the umbrella was passed through that to steady the sway, but sadly I think that’s just the clasp to hold the umbrella closed.
I -can- do it, technically, with many mistakes and very slow, because it was forced on me in high school (around 2001), well after I’d refined my own typing style from chat rooms and instant messengers. I did it for that class, hated every second, and would go home to type the way I normally do, rather than practice it.
I type extremely fast despite using a mostly-sight-based, modified 2-3 finger hunt-peck. (As in one hand usually only uses two fingers, one uses three). I keep up with fast touch typers, around 90-95wpm, except when copying text verbatim (something I’ve never actually needed to do for any reason other than typing tests) so I have zero motivation to change what I do.

2·19 days agommmm that sounds lovely, other than the star damage. Tho for exactly that reason I’m a big fan of gradual spring over sudden nice days. Give you a few days of “not warm enough for more than a couple hours” acclimation.

2·19 days agoI think around 14 yrs now? They can live a max of like 20, so not doing too bad. His tank mate died a year back tho, so he’s been pretty lonely. Super friendly variety, likes interacting with my fingers.
They are reeves turtles, aka Asian pond turtles, and get a max of about 4 inches, so real tiny. My male topped out at 2 inches and the female got 4. They aren’t common in the US because their max size is just at the lower limit for selling turtles so they have to be fully mature adults before sale. I bought mine as newly hatched research animals, because that’s a loophole. :)

Low-key thought this was talking about tech familiarity until about halfway through when I realized I’m a moron.
