Don’t think crypto is the solution to replacing payment processors. The distributed networks is going to have enormous difficulty scaling to even a fraction of the number of card payments processed each day.

5·19 days agoIt was 3 day site wide bans as I understood it. Reason given was that saying that Greenland should defend itself was “threatening violence”.

8·20 days agoI saw it in a post about people getting temp bans for simply stating that EU allies would be right to defend Greenland in case of military action. Might just have been one of several grievances with Reddit at the moment though

News@lemmy.world•Lawsuit Alleges That WhatsApp Has No End-to-End EncryptionEnglish
2·24 days agoThe headline makes it sound like they have access to all you call, but the text make it sound like it’s just the WhatsApp calls history and contacts and that’s… obvious?
If they actually have access to message that and it is t end-2-end encrypted at all is on a whole different level.
Yeah, my first thought was that it’s a reference to how facism has grown by allowing people to discuss it in anonymous echo chambers.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why can people see who upvotes and who downvoted post on Lemmy?English
11·25 days agoAt least when pouring my shit into Big Tech I can be reasonably sure that it disappears into the ocean of other data they have, and it’s exceptionally unlikely that someone with the access to do so would actually look into me specifically.
That any unhinged individual on the internet can pull out more information than strictly necessary about my online history is a completely different threat model. I understand that the federated model requires some level of data sharing to keep track of posts but I would kind of have expected that the instance that “owns” the post would be the only instance that needs this info.
On the other hand, I’m sure that absolute privacy like completely hidden post history to some extent will help bad faith actors with troll farms and bots so I don’t fucking know.

Isn’t the UI very similar or am I missing something? I didn’t see any major differences when initially comparing them except PieFed having some more features like reactions and cross post comment loading (which I don’t think is a thing in Lemmy?). I have mostly used PieFed since then though.
