  • Well, if they wear the flag, display the Swastika, do the salute or go on about white supremacy, that’s a pretty solid hint.

A Nazi is (originally) a particular brand of fascism, but much like champagne, it has become a generic term for the whole family of ideologies. The “ur-fascist” definition by Umberto Eco, who was witness to the fascist regime of Mussolini, highlights a few key traits if fascist ideology like a cult of tradition, emphasis on machismo and action over thought, obedience over independence, contempt for pacifism and weakness and populism that leverages frustrations, conspiracy theories and fears to rally its followers against some perceived enemy.

Not every trait is fascist on its own, but neither does some movement need to tick all boxes to be fascist. There’s sure to be some grey area, but if you have people rushing to inflict violence on anyone looking differently, spurred on by a guy promising to restore some ambiguous past glory by blaming the economic and social troubles on foreigners and beating the war drums… yeah, well, eventually the indicators start piling up.

  • 1.2 Lizenzkosten zur vollständigen Nutzung der benötigten Funktionen

    • Firefox 25 Punkte
    • Chrome 50 Punkte
    • Edge 100 Punkte

Da würde mich ja interessieren, was für Lizenzkosten wohl bei FF anfallen würden, aber das kannst du vermutlich nicht beantworten

3.8 MS IAM Single Sign Login

    • Firefox 0 Punkte
    • Chrome 0 Punkte
    • Edge 100 Punkte

  • Alternatively (or additionally), we should all support a (livavble) universal basic income funded from corporate profits. If an AI takes my job, make my (former) employer pay me anyway. If there is (almost) no work to be done by humans anymore, work should no longer be necessary to live.

  • I don’t believe infanticide was a common thing at any point.

For one, people in the past were well aware that some herbs had a dampening effect on fertility (not as comprehensive as modern methods, but still apparently visible emough). Together with a longer breastfeeding period and less nutrition, that will have been enough to curtail the actual amount of pregnancies.

People loved their children. There are enough grave inscriptions and stories detailing the depth of grief or framing a willingness to sacrifice your own kid as remarkable obedience (Abraham and Isaac, Cepheus and Andromeda). I see no reason to believe that this should have been so different in the cultures before recorded history.

  • We’ve been dominantly settled farmers for millenia now, but that doesn’t change the equation: walking to the fields, walking to fetch water, walking around the house and attached vegetable gardens, going outside to chat with neighbours to keep up with local news and maintain social relationships as a fundamental part of survival.

The elites also weren’t spared the obligation to survey their holdings, visit their vassals or patrons/liege, participate in visible displays of wealth, influence and leisure to maintain legitimacy…

Particularly (but not only) post-industrial literature is teeming with works on the depressing alienation in cities.

Just walking through the neighborhood on the way to work, home or to the grocery store and greeting people I meet – strangers, for all intents – helps my mood.

Humanity thrived on activity and interaction. Let’s try to keep that.
