From what I can tell by checking now, there’s been some conspiracy theories around removal of Sonny Piers from Gnome Foundation Board of Directors but the current state of this drama is that Sonny Piers has taken down his blog.

FFVI was rereleased for pretty much every platform already, sold relatively well and should satisfy that demographic. People are asking for a bigger FFVI remake because only something grand could do that story justice in another format.

It’s because consumers expect certain level of production values which is then amplified by the scale of FFVI story. By the time you invest in the required assets you want to maximise bang for your buck so each location needs more depth and that’s how you end up with something like FFVII Remake.

I agree that if you run a thing then you get to decide things about it. I agree that calls for for violence should be filtered from normies at all cost (I’m very pro guillotine but I think it’s best to have everyone get there on their own pace). I agree that homophobia/transphobia has no place in a civilised space. So, mostly everything that was stated there.

I don’t use Tesseract but I did try it out back in the day and I remember that there was a button labeled „toxicity” in settings. I’m surprised by what it does from a technical perspective because I’d expect it to do filtering based on keywords. But user filters definitely work too, it’s just that you have to keep your ear to the ground which is a lot of effort. I modded a national subreddit back in the day and for certain type of users doing a pseudo-shadowban was the only way to do it.

I can’t vouch for every person on the list being there for a valid reason. I scrolled it but didn’t recognise anyone. I stay out of crowded spaces though.

I agree with rationale of what Tesseract is doing but I’m also disappointed I’m not on the list.

The older I am the more I notice how capitalism is so ubiquitous that it’s pretty much a religion that’s being hammered into brains of everybody from an early age. Having cartoons becoming ads for toys in the 80s led to irreparable harm for every future generation. It’s unfortunate that using language / philosophy designed specifically to talk about this has been ridiculed to the point of most people having negative knee-jerk reaction to it. It’ll probably take many more centuries of unnecessary deaths until people realise this, similar to other religious mass delusions.

There are people making counterclaims because if you own content or need to extract ad revenue of your derivative but legal content then you know the other side won’t follow through. Making frivolous counterclaims on content you don’t own is an obviously futile endeavour, hence it doesn’t happen.

I don’t disagree with any of this. It’s just that companies rarely if ever follow through with a lawsuit if they’re abusing DMCA. For them the strikes YouTube / Twitch influencers get on their business accounts is enough of a deterrent. In this case nobody is even bothering filing counterclaims because they know they’d have a very weak case.

Do you know of a case where DMCA takedown was followed up by a corporation and then dragged out into a long legal battle? You either have rights to content or don’t and establishing that in case of leaked advertisements seems to be quite straight forward. I’m pretty sure leakers didn’t purchase those rights because there’s no way to do so right now. One could argue that if you purchase the game then you should have right to share parts of it under fair use and I agree but the game is not even out.

I support very few open source projects because ultimately charity is not a sustainable way of financing things. It makes me feel like it’s up to me, an individual, to carry the weight of the world and ultimately too depressing. Fostering open source should be handled by governments, same as other stuff that’s done due to common interest, like schools and hospitals.
