I am planning on buying a vacuum cleaner. Are there any European brands?
Miele
Henry is the only hoover you ever need and it’s British. If you go round the houses with other brands you’ll end up buying a Henry :-) might as well get one now
Just purchased a Sebo E3, made in Germany with some parts sourced from Canada.
Miele is German, but now has some parts and lines from China and South Korea.
Vorwerk Kobold
Best one.
Careful, company’s running MLM scheme
I’ll put in a word for Rowenta from France. They make vacuums both in France and China. The high end stuff is made in France and good.
Dysonand Numatic (who make the Henry vacuum cleaners) are both British. As someone from the UK, please avoid Dyson.
He supported Brexit saying that he’d invest in more UK manufacturing then as soon as it happened, moved even more manufacturing overseas.
On top of that he’s a massive cunt to his workers and the quality of Dysons have gone downhill so much they break as soon as they’re out of warranty.
Numatic international (Henry) on the other hand are top quality, built to last, keep manufacturing in Europe and the UK, and aren’t lead by a dickhead.
Seriously, you’ll move house a dozen times before a Henry hoover gives out on you, every single professional cleaner in the UK uses a Henry or other Numatic International model (if they’re not using an industrial cleaning brand) because they’re built more robust than a bastard child of a Panasonic Toughbook and a Nokia 3310.
I love Henrys purely because you regularly see people walking their Henry.
Electrolux
Dyson. British brand, recently moved to Singapore though. They make expensive vacuum cleaners with pretty damn good engineering. Source: I own a wired one.
Boycott Dyson. Its ceo supported Brexit, he is a total dint.
Duly noted. I honestly didn’t know.
I like my Bosch one. It’s battery is swappable with any Bosch tool.

Miele sucks a golf ball through a garden hose Brudi. I’m more of a Kärcher man though because I put my penis inside it.
Philips ?
Philips consumer electronics¹ (as a brand only) was acquired by Chinese venture capitalist² firm.
EDITS:
¹ actually Philips Domestic Appliances (but the consumer electronics division was also sold to a Chinese company)
² private equity
Which type of products are sold by Philips consumer electronics? Is it everything a normal consumer can buy? On the Wikipedia page it looks like products such as lamps, headphones, toothbrushes and TVs are products belonging to Philips. It is a bit confusing because it says in the beginning of the Wikipedia article that the consumer electronics is no longer part of the company.
Ah sorry, a couple errors on my part.
“Venture capitalist” was supposed to be “private equity”.
“Consumer electronics” is apparently only referring to the audiovisual (TV, speakers etc) line of Philips. That was sold to the Chinese but not private equity firm TPV Technology.
Philips Domestic Appliances which contains e.g. vacuums, blenders, and coffee machines was sold to the Chinese private equity firm Hillhouse Capital Group.
And the lightbulbs (Philips Hue etc.) were spun off into the still Dutch Signify.
Still part of Philips seem to be products in the categories:
- Body care and shaving
- Baby care
- Apparently car headlights?
- Healthcare
Thanks, this is really good information.
