I like the idea of this. It think 100% of Americans in their right minds should agree with it…
My issue is how do we expect this to be adopted let alone be enforced? Like, this is cool, but is it going to do anything? Or are Dems just throwing this out there so they can keep saying, “See!? We’re still better than those guys!” While still taking it up the ass from the GOP?
And do I, a Lemmy user, have all the answers in how to change things? I don’t think I personally do. But we’ve seen Dems start to fight back and fold already. Just look at your health insurance premiums. Remember that lock-out? Look at this most recent “shutdown” that lasted like 24 hours.
Yeah I mean this is the most left-leaning of the democrats in congress putting this forward, so the rest of them need pressure to make this go anywhere, perhaps along with whoever else might be amenable. Play the longer game: maybe it’ll be more viable after the midterm elections, but the pressure campaign will need to ramp up between now and then.
primaries are coming up my rep consistantly voted no on the ice appropriations so they will get a vote from me but everyone should check. We have an open senate seat and two of the canidates are current house members and one crossed the aisle on ice appropriations. There is one canidate that has state experience but the one who voted against the appropriations is who is getting my vote unless I learn something more.
