I agree with what you’re saying here, my comment was really about highlighting why it’s impossible to take anything to the effect of “This is propaganda against China” seriously, since Chinese authorities will begin frothing at the mouth and calling you a racist xenophobic/sinophobic liar if you even insinuate that they’ve done any of the well documented things they’ve done.
If you say anything about surveillance, human rights violations, oppression, etc. you’ll immediately be met by “Baseless lies!” “Unfriendly nation!” and friends. The result is that whenever China denies something, I just end up more convinced that they’re guilty of what they were accused of.
China: Conducts exercises simulating the invasion of Taiwan
China: “We intend to invade Taiwan”
Western media outlet: “China may be preparing to invade Taiwan”
China: "This is western propaganda. Why would you spread such lies?
Tankies: Thinking China will invade Taiwan is racist!
Also: they’d be better off under Chinese rule!
