Just wondering how a democrat can buy a gun without supporting the NRA. Obviously all American guns are from NRA-supporting gun makers. And if you buy a foreign gun, the importers are (all?) supporting the NRA. What’s left?

I’ve bought many a gun and never once directly given the NRA money, why would I? They’re not involved in any aspect of my shooting, purchasing or owning.
What supplier did you buy guns from who did not give to the NRA? I cannot find a single supply chain that avoids the NRA.
When buying firearms, suppressors and other accessories there’s very little to be gained by trying to identify a left leaning company or supply chain. I consider lesser evils and most importantly get what it is that I’m wanting regardless. There’s a few companies that stand out that I avoid altogether and that decision is weighted by customer experience - CS/Warranties more than politics.
I choose manufacturers to my best ability, use LGS that I align with and avoid ranges and clubs that are insured through their affiliation with the NRA.
what is your ultimate reason for avoiding the NRA? is it just purely a defensive reaction to them being conservative? or do you have specific critiques of what they do?
I ask because I’m pretty confident there are no ethical guns, so if you go deep enough down the supply chains of any weapons manufacturer you’ll probably find a lot of people that are ideologically opposed to you. There’s no “harm reduction” for buying a gun. Commit to the fact that you’re buying a weapon intended to kill, and understand that the way you use it moving forward is way, wayyy more important than the horror of its assembly.

Oof, seriously? Where to start… I am not going to write a book in this thread. It’s a surprising question. To be clear, this is not the #NRA of the 1970’s, which started as a gun safety organisation. Today’s NRA is the complete inverse. It’s anti-gun safety. NRA has become extremist. They lobby hard against every single gun safety measure that emerges. They would fight for the right of 12 year olds to carry hand grenades and land mines if it were up for discussion. They would advocate for schitzophrenics to carry ak-47s. They fight policy that would prohibit parents from leaving an insecure loaded gun lying around in reach of toddlers.
The NRA is in bed with ALEC and Koch brothers. They channel dark money from Russia and other illegit sources into republican war chests. ALEC is not just a lobby but also a bill mill that:
- opposes tax regs
- masks corporate tampering with politics
- fights immigration; pushes xenophobia
- fights affirmative action and feminism
- fights public education
- fights public healthcare
- fights environmental regs
- pushes climate denial propaganda and policy
- fights workers’ rights and weakens labor unions
- advocates citizens united
- advocates voter suppression and intimidation
- brainwashes voters to think democrats would nullify 2A and generally prohibit guns; they produce a constant stream of extremist propaganda on the Alex Jones level of nutty to have that effect

I don’t give a shit what the guy who packs guns into shipping boxes believes. I care where the money goes. When you buy a gun that feeds the NRA, you feed actions and policy that assault liberal values. You’re not a democrat in practice if you feed the NRA.
