US chicken companies pioneered restricting sleep to keep birds eating around the clock.
A new study (Li et al., 2026) recommends giving chickens just 2 hours of darkness nightly to maximize the time they spend eating. The study and photo are Chinese.
We know chickens have far better hapiness with 7–8 hours of darkness to sleep.
But they eat more and grow faster when they are sleep deprived.

Reports like these are the reason I couldn’t stand eating meat anymore. Went vegetarian first but learned soon that vegetarism is just meat eating with extra steps. Everything thats for vegetarians but not vegan contributes to the same suffering as eating meat.
It’s all worth it even with all the shit I get to eat from other guys for being a vegan man.
Get a vegan cookbook, vegan suppliments and be part of the change.
You need supplements? What about pesticides? Any concerns there?
Poisons and toxins concentrate dramatically for every step up the food chain you go. It is called bioamplification.
Pretty sure they are asking about the concern of pesticides killing plants and animals to protect the food being grown, and where that fits into the vegan lifestyle.
No, there is an incredibly large cohort of meat eaters that come up with creative ways to justify their behavior to themselves. In this case the argument (which I’ve heard hundreds of times) is that if you eat so much more plant matter in order to meet your nutrition needs (i.e. a lot of beans and soy) you are going to eat way more peaticides simply because of the increased volume of consumption.
Such people have never thought even once about what food their meat eats.
Ya there’s not really a good excuse that doesn’t end with im lazy and like the taste. Maybe some dietary requirements or allergies that I’m not aware of I guess.
Its a hard switch but I really should get on it.
Despite what the internet militants tell you, it’s not all or nothing. If every person skipped meat just once a month the impact on global warming would be measurable.
Yeah my goal is to replaceynweekly meal prepa next week with vegan options instead of meat heavy
Nah, they’re cool with killing all the non cute animals and destroying the natural habitat of animals to make way for super farms that just kill everything in its path.
It takes far less land to meet dietary needs with vegan food than with diets that include meat.
40% of worldwide grain production is used for animal feed. The calories obtained from eating the animal ~10% of what is used to feed the animal. We could fully replace meat, calorically, and free up more than a third of the land worldwide that is used for agriculture.
I’m not even vegan, but there is undeniably less environmental footprint to eating more plants and less meat.
Where do you think the stuff the meat animals eat comes from? You think there’s not millions and millions of acres of land producing solely cow food right now? Do they go out and pick all the feed corn by hand so they don’t crush any little mouseys nearby? Do you think a cow might require more food than a human?
