The rise of lady schlock-horror hosts such as Vampira (lemmy thread) led to many imitators in TV markets all across the US. In the late 1950s, Suzanne Waldron had a similar camp-movie TV show, hosted by her character Tarantula Ghoul. There is no known footage of her show that survives today.
She also had a novelty song that got quite a lot of airplay and is still known today: Graveyard Rock (youtube). It all begins about 12 O’clock, when the graves all open and we start to rock! I never had such fun since the day I died, and they pumped me full of formaldehyde!
Waldron died tragically young at age 50 after a bout with cancer.

I think I know the thread you mean. As I and some of the other merry goths were part of it. 🤪 but your vampira link just gives me a Lemmy.ca link in Voyager.
Hmm! Maybe I can’t simply cut and paste the thread URL and have it work for other people?
It’s a thread I posted in the “Vintage and Retro Ads, Promos, Fliers, Etc” comm about 2 hours before this reply, along side a similar Elvira post.
Did a quick test and yeah linking to a post right now seems broken. Linking to a comment however seemed to work even not logged in. 🤷♂️
Good to know, thanks! By “right now”, sounds like it is supposed to work, but something may be wrong temporarily, so I shouldn’t permanently stop linking to threads by their URL.
Aaaah nope missed that one. 😄 there were a number of threads a few months ago featuring a number of female horror icons. Tarantula and a few more obscure ones came up.
