Lefty Memes@lemmy.dbzer0.com•It's literally the guy's actual faceEnglish
22·3 months agoOh my god, I am not disagreeing with the fact that genocide is bad and Israel is doing it. Tarring all Jews with the brush of Zionism is something both zionists and nazis do. Surely you understand the statement, not all Jews are Zionist? And just how much of your ass is showing with an extremely racist, racialized meme?

81·3 months agoYeah. I remember episode of Chappo Trap House where they were making fun of Itamar Ben Gvir’s name, and I just turned it off and unsubbed. Like, as an antifascist Jew, who grew up in these spaces, yeah there were always Jewish fascists and zionists, but like Peyot and names like that are just normal. Just like, wtf, you guys are just showing their whole ass.

Science Memes@mander.xyz•CW: Picture of a severe vaccine injury, NSFLEnglish
4·4 months agoIt’s the confluence of several factor, but essentially, suspicion of the Medical Industrial Complex has been building since the mid 80s. Medical care is so expensive and the MIC so squirrely that it always had people desperately looking for ways around it, which opens the door to con artists. In the mid 90s, discredited now but not at this point in the story British doctor Andrew Wakefield was invested in (and I think part inventor of?) some new vax that targeted one of the components of MMR. In order to market it, he published a paper suggesting (quite softly iirc) that the MMR had some flaws, and advocating for parental choice to vax for each separately.
This is hogwash. The MMR has been safe and in use for something like 100 years (possibly more?). Wakefield was disgraced for this, and when the paper was cherry picked (even after the Lancet retracted it) and misquoted by the then still quite powerful but not yet in their final form anti-vaxxer movement, the disgraced Wakefield had to pivot to a new grift; speaking to Anti vaxxer gatherings, and lending them credibility to those who did not know the story (for which he did have medical license revoked).
So it follows with all of society’s issues in the 2020s; Instead of fixing a severe systemic issues, like say, our broken medical system which bankrupts people or kills them because they cant afford life saving medicine, which might involve curtailing the power of capitalists, blame instead pivots to the products instead, which people can understand. They understand their child is dying and they cant afford it, while maybe not questioning why. This opens the door to con men, which starts a cycle, as conmen want to open the door further. The conmen become the power, and then cheating just becomes business, and an army of marks becomes numerous enough that RFK becomes secretary of health, and your mom dies in a hospital hooked up to a ventilator refusing treatment because a conman said a fucking horse dewormer that he owned shares in would protect her.

I mean the end of the world is always coming. Going to work to maintain the system that is actively digesting you is inhuman but making dinner? thats the good part. Youre always going to have to. We care for each other. Even after capitalism, it will be an honor to make dinner and care for the people you love.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Been wondering about this for a while: What happens to heavy-degree autistic people after their parents die?
9·4 months agoI am a case worker for people with disabilities, including several people on my caseload with autism. It does depend where you are and how autism presents, even within my small caseload there is a lot of variation. Even people with “heavy degree” autism can have lot of variation. In general, my agency and jurisdiction take the person centered planning and self determination pathways; the person if able, communicates to us what they do and not want in their plan, who they do and not want caring for them, and what they want us to request (funding from Medicaid. US). In many cases, they are in command of themselves enough to have that much control.
I suppose the question you ask is; what happens to the people who are non verbal, perhaps even combative. The answer is a little sadder. The agency I work for specializes in IDD but also community mental health. Our system famously dismantled the asylums in the 90s under Reagan austerity (good) but I do think there is an infinitesimally small group of people for whom community mental health is not meeting their significant needs.
In many cases, like you said family has high needs people in their homes, until parents die. Many times, siblings become their primary guardians. Many of them are living their own lives. There exist group homes, with round the clock care. Some of them will apply for co - guardianship (that is to say, the agency running the place). It is this threshold that my agency will hand them off to another more specialized one. Medicaid will pay for staffing but not rent, so this is what occurs for families without much money.
If there is enough money, then the family might get the person their own space, so they can remain independent. In that case, my agency can petition funding for as much staffing as they need (although 24 hour staffing is pretty close to institutionalizing someone. There exist a lot of institutional barriers to funding 24 hour staffing.) Either of these combine with rights restrictions, which I have thankfully never had to institute. These are special provisions in their plans, which are reviewed by a jurisdictional authority board. Example, a lock on the knife drawer, or some kind of safety mechanism to prevent the stove from being turned on.
If they are lucky, their family has some money, they can set them up with a place. Their siblings take over as guardian and they can continue with the same support apparatus that their parents set up, with the staff handling the day to day. If they do not come from some means, then they will likely end up in a group home. They might also end up in a group home if they are too combative to live on their own.

Earlier this year, I played Pokemon Lazarus, and it is immediately my all time GOAT.

Anarchism@lemmy.dbzer0.com•How do people actually fall into the "Tankie" mindset?
2·6 months agopossibly? Being a liberal is the default where I live. Its generally considered the opposite of “conservative.” I give liberals (in the US politics sense) a bit more grace than most leftists. It is as far left as most people consider “allowable” in the US. They don’t hold very many abhorrent social opinions; they are quite supportive of queer rights, they volunteer at soup kitchens with me, oppose nazis, are environmentally conscious, etc.
Their main issue is that they have never been taught to view the world differently. So they talk about environmentalism, and they get behind bike lanes and electric cars, but they cannot conceive of restructuring cities to make use of more public transportation, or say blowing up fossil fuel infrastructure in minecraft. They want to help the homeless, but they can’t imagine just housing people, they support shelters and clothing drives and the salvation army, and other stop gaps within the system. I’ve long since resigned myself to the fact that people who think what I think are rare, and even various other stripes of leftists (anarchists, syndicalists, MLs, etc) are all gonna be a vanishingly tiny minority. I don’t think most liberals are so far gone we can’t reach them.
(Unless you meant like, neo liberalism, with like Thatcherist and Reaganite austerity, in which case yeah, basically fascism).

For one, I was getting really irritated about the apps my google device wouldnt let me delete, and also the apps I wanted to side load. That being said, I definitely don’t like meta. I have an app on my PC called caprine. I wouldn’t download first party meta apps, but these are the apps my friends use to talk, so if there is a workaround, I was just asking about that
