No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Hypothetically, if you were a kid and your parents worked for a government intelligence agency, how would you keep secrets / have privacy from your parents?
2·3 days agoEither they value your privacy because they care about you to some degree (I get the feeling this is common)
OR they spy on you constantly and you turn into a psychopath (many cases of the children of spies and security agents being completel psychos)
Just curious… cuz maybe I have an idea for storywriting… maybe…
I guess the most interesting storytelling device here would be to make the kid a young tech genius so they can evade the scrutiny of their parents
I quite enjoy movie and show sex scenes / nudity - they’re more special than porn and can easily be more artistic than pornography.
There is actually a very high upper limit on how much sex can fit into a show, IF it is a “meaningful” sex scene and adds to the plot… you could theoretically have 50% sex scenes if it was a show about sex or a very sex centred episode. But that would be a bit like watching porn, which is just one reason why movies tend to cut away or interrupt the nsfw action. (Anothee reaskn is that they can’t be bothered to film it all, because it’s not actual sex.)
Case study: I actually tried to watch a show largrly about sex. “The Girlfriend Experience.” All of the storytelling and excitement of this series goes into the sex scenes, which they honestly should have had more of, given that it is a show about sex.
The rest of the show was incredibly flst and boring - LITERALLY just people conversing with one another in a sterile corporate high rise.
old-ish movies: If you watch movies from the 70s and 80s you’ll notice a ridiculous adherence to having as many female stars or background characters showing their breasts as possible. It reminds me of how people (e.g asmongold) get about video game character design - they think the lack of smutty stuff is a personal attack.
I’m not sure what to think of this gratuitous nudity, because i do of course like it, but it’s very tacky and obvious. Doesn’t waste as much time as unnecessary sex scenes, i suppose.
Lol maybe they should censor movies on planes since its literally in public

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How would you bescribe yourself by a sentence?
8·3 days agoHow I would bescribe myself: “behold! I will now write my name on my arm.”
How I woukd describe myself:“The Disillusioned-with-reality guy.”
Not as intense as traitors but another great british game show is “Would I lie to you” (you’re going to tell me now that you are british and that’s it silly to explain it like a foreign concept, lol). The only other thing i remember watching that’s competative in the same way as traitors is Race Across The World.
Some Anime shows I’ve loved: Romantic Killer (Netflix), The Disastrous Life of Saiki K* (was on netflix for a good while). Witch Watch is an okay anime i watched recently, sadly feels a bit unfinished but it’s just that new.
- Would definitely recommend SpyXFamily - it appeals to all age groups - but I’m guessing you will have watched that.
Random reccommendations just because they’re so good:
- Dropout TV, which is full of comedy and gameshows. (You can get a taste for it from their YouTube channel)
- Daredevil S1-3 (Disney+)
- Deutschland '83,'86,'89. (was on channel 4 iPlayer, don’t know where else) & Slow Horses (Apple TV)
Raw Carrots, absolutely an S+ tier healthy food
- Do oatmeal cookies count?
- grapes, raisins or nuts mixed with raisins
- golden sultanas are the best, but i like them best when mixed eith nuts or some other types of dried fruit.
- Bircher, AKA overnight oats made by soaking yoghurt, oats,p & fruit in apple juice and refrigerating over several days
Anything fermented or pickled is a delight to eat and you can make them at home very easily as long as you’re sanitising your jars in boiling water between each use. A youtuber/tiktoker(?) Called Kirsten Kaminski is how i learned about this stuff. She has a cookbook if you’re interested.
Would definitely recommend pickled onions, they’re absolutely stupendous.
Air dried cauliflower i wouldn’t go near but i would try it as a pickle or ferment food.
Do you think all monopolies should be split into different companies, and then given to the workers who would collectivize them?
Some areas should just be nationalised, so if a water company, train line, airline, network provider, energy provider, car manufacturer becomes big enough then the government should aim to own their monopoly.
I like worker owned things as well, but there’s no use introducing it unless the situation demands it. If we take amazon as an example, i would have to see it reach that point only after failing to comply to demands like paying taxes and treating workers with respect. We should legislate these things into being better rather than taking over.
Because the economy should generally aim to be as simple and efficient in organisation as possible.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•At this point, should I trick Reddit into thinking that they’ve wrongfully banned my account “r/DylanMc6” in my ban appeal? (repost from !hexbear@hexbear.net)
2·4 days agoI’m not a reddit fan or hater, there’s just niche communities I like being apart of on reddit that I can’t communicate with anymore.
Same man, same…
Here are some more facts about reddit IP bans:
- They also take your device ID/“fingerprint” on the devices you log into banned account with
- This can be reset by factory resetting a device apparently, but:
- supposedly, because of data protection, they get rid of this ID anyway, as well as your saved IP address, after a fixed period. Maybe 30 days or 3 months? So if you didnt use reddit in all that time you’d be good to go with a new email address
You should also avoid quickly joining all your favourite subreddits, because it flags accounts for that. Basically move like a tortoise when you rejoin, and then after a while you can use reddit normally.
You can get banned from any community if the mods decide to - the good news is a communty called “ye power tripping bastards” which serves as the court to get an appeal, if that’s important to you

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What something you want to try but was always afraid to do?
71·5 days agoCigarettes - I’d probably go with cigars now, anyway. I’m evolving!
Also, industrial sabotage on behalf of an environmental cause. Okay that’s not because i’m scared i guess i’ve just been too lazy. Also no point making other workers’ lives harder, most of the time. Point me in the direction of a truly worthy cause and I’ll bring a sledgehammer

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•At this point, should I trick Reddit into thinking that they’ve wrongfully banned my account “r/DylanMc6” in my ban appeal? (repost from !hexbear@hexbear.net)
2·5 days agoI can completely understand wanting to use reddit again (hope you stick with us too, if you do) but you should know it’s super hard to get past any kind of permanent ban.
Did you use multiple reddit accounts or just one? the problem for me is that i got IP banned because they detected me logging in to a banned one on the same browser. It is borderline impossible for me to use reddit for commenting & posting again.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is Substack and why all the sudden do all the content creators seem to be on it?
13·6 days agomost of the people on it seem to be crazy or racist
Yeah I would credit that to twitter, which is how it spreads.
I’m not deep into the world of online blog congregators but I think medium is the clean alternative to Substack.

5·6 days agoIt’s a place for twitter users to roleplay as intellectual essayists (okay some of them are totally worthwhile tbf) because twitter itself is designed for sharing brainfarts rather than cognizant thoughts

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some non-mainstream foods or drinks from your culture that social media isn't aware of and hasn't ruined?
2·6 days agoYeah I don’t really like this one. I’ve liked it the last 2 or 3 times I tried it but I had one that went too overboard on herbs and it felt like how an actual toad would feel to eat
I bet having the hands right above the head does make it a bit easier to draw, tbh. Means you can draw the whole character’s torso if you want to. Other than that I’d say it’s just dramatic, like double begging/pleading.
