Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•All the "useless" things we learn in school are there to teach us to learn.
4·10 hours agoYeah english class activities we had were not on citing sources or thinking critically. We learned how to read and write fast and that was most of it.
As example there was those multiple choice questions asking stuff like “which paragraph had this sentence in it.” What does that even teach?
Hell I used to be praised for writing huge paragraphs of text. Then found out splitting into small ones makes it more readable by my own testing.
I learned where to use who and whom in a LoTR meme posted on lemmy ffs.
So yeah it was mostly children being used for checkboxes to get funding and whatnot.
See I can only think up to “if I was a girl” before being completely derailed into other thoughts from there :3
And then convinced everyone it’s some religious conflict because brown people are all brute extremists.
It won’t become widely used if nobody uses it for not being widely used. What is this, the job market?

Bikini Bottom Twitter@lemmy.world•I no longer wish to be in on the family lore

They are both highschool language arts teachers btw.
(Once you learn the politics and other context it stops sounding as bad thankfully)
Ngl I like learning from textbooks now that I am out of highschool. I learn faster too.
And weirdest part is that I still can’t study through my highschool textbooks.
I am geniuenly wondering if they were just simply terrible at picking good textbooks and overall using them to teach.
On a related note having 6 different classes a day 8 hours total times 5 days a week made it impossible to learn properly.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you deal with spending money for (unnecessary) luxuries?
1·1 day agoHonestly have a similar situation and is it even a bad thing? Yeah hoarding it like a billionaire is way worse, but it’s not like the feeling is coming out of nowhere either.
vim has a built-in autocomplete you can use by pressing ctrl-n during interactive mode.
Your interner service provider can detect torrents and send you a warning. That’s about as far as that goes in my experience.

Young people interested in tech always existed but there was half a generation long phase where it was just “people being raised by their parents to work at google one day.”
Computers don’t inherently mean “corporate” in peoples head and are becoming a hobby again.

Netflix learned from their mistakes and will continue on playing it safe by fundning bigmouth.
