Highly qualified means a Cop that promised unwavering support for Israel in their struggle to fully genocide and colonize Palestine. Fuck off.
Yeah go tell that to the Palestinians being genocided right now.
That doesn’t mean that person is an expert on China just because they lived there. They could very well be wrong, and in fact they are. You don’t have to take my word for it, the Brazilian YouTuber Felipe Durante has lived in China for years, and continues to do so, and he goes in the complete opposite direction than the person saying “I lived there and censorship no one knows anything” in this thread.
Why should I take this random person word instead of the one I can literally see is in China?
You really think no one knew what Nazi Germany was up to and that it should have been the USSR’s job to tell the world? lmao

Kras Mazov@lemmygrad.mlto Open Source@lemmy.ml•Did PewDiePie Just Crack the Code for How to Present Libre Software?5·1 month agoNah, you’re excusing his behavior. He could have cursed in Swedish instead of using a racially charged word. The fact that he knew the word, knew it was bad, it came to his mind and used it is too much to be a “heated” moment.
And even if it was, there’s literally no excuses. His content is in English and his main audience is USians.
Kras Mazov@lemmygrad.mlto Open Source@lemmy.ml•Did PewDiePie Just Crack the Code for How to Present Libre Software?6·1 month agoSure thing. These people were both on his YouTube comments and on his subreddit. Tho I remember it being worse at the subreddit.
The issue is not that Nazis will watch his content, that’s outside of anyone’s control, but that his content funnels people into right-wing ideologies, which attracts these types of people.
The video “The PewDiePipeline” that I linked talks about this better than I could.
Kras Mazov@lemmygrad.mlto Open Source@lemmy.ml•Did PewDiePie Just Crack the Code for How to Present Libre Software?3·1 month agoYes because in this case it’s relevant. You are right that being mentioned by a bad person is not necessarily proof of anything. But like I said, in this case it is connected to the content and community that PewDiePie has.
Kras Mazov@lemmygrad.mlto Open Source@lemmy.ml•Did PewDiePie Just Crack the Code for How to Present Libre Software?91·1 month agoIf you can’t see how he hosting Shapiro and Musk, using right wing memes and rethoric, endorsing a fascist author, and allowing Nazis and other right-wingers to fester in his community is directly related with why that POS shooter mentioned him, that is precisely the problem.
That’s a common excuse used to defend the guy over and over again like it is just some isolated incident and not connected to the content he produces and the community he fosters.
Kras Mazov@lemmygrad.mlto Open Source@lemmy.ml•Did PewDiePie Just Crack the Code for How to Present Libre Software?English91·1 month agoI used to watch him years ago. He has a very young and impressionable audience which he constantly feeds memes with right-wing rethoric.
To list a few of the stuff I remember:
- He said the N word hard R;
- He paid people on Fiverr to show a sign saying “Death to all Jews” or something like that, where he laughed at the reveal. He said it was to prove a point that you could do harmful shit with that type of online service, but all it ended up doing was getting the guys banned from the platform and served to signal to Nazis that he would host such content;
- He allowed right-wingers to fester in his community, 4chan specially really liked the guy;
- He hosted both Ben Shapiro and Elon Musk in his channel for a “meme review”;
- He has stated multiple times that his favorite author is Mishima, a Japanese fascist, not only in the past, but also in the last year at least;
- He used to stream on some crypto bullshit site, which I don’t remember the name;
- His whole campaign against the Indian conglomerate T-Series lead not only to racist comments but also to a very racist music video he did;
- The Christchurch shooter mentioned him in a video. And while being mentioned by a shooter doesn’t necessarily mean he’s an issue, in this case it’s extremely relevant since it’s pretty clear that is a byproduct of his politics and the community he has.
There’s probably much more that I either don’t remember or don’t know about, but this is more than enough to understand where he stands politically and the harm he causes.
I also recommend the video: The PewDiePipeline.
Comrade Cowbee already followed with great responses but I want to add that we usually forget to factor in why would someone want more?
That’s easy to answer currently because we live in a capitalistic world where individualism and greed are taught to us since we are little and are constantly hammered into our heads. We must consume, we must have more, etc.
That will not be the case in a communist society. At that stage of development, these capitalistic ideals would not be alive in the collective consciousness of people. So, while today we can ask why wouldn’t someone want more, someone from that future might ask why would I want more if I already have everything I need?
I’m glad to help o7. Your work here is indispensable and greatly appreciated, comrade!
I believe you’re misinterpreting what comrade Cowbee is saying. Primitive here is not a moral term being used to say something is savage, it’s merely a descriptor of the system in the past, before the advancements that allow it to take on a new form.
The distinction here is important because both systems are different and because we cannot simply go back to a past mode of production.
Kras Mazov@lemmygrad.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why aren’t any government making wealth inequality and property supply focused policies?1·4 months agoHey, I appreciate the disclaimer at the top, it shows you care about this stuff, which is already a pretty good step.
Other comrades already provided you with links about Tiananmen Square. The only other two I can link here are this video debunking the western narrative by Hakim and this article about the Arab league’s conclusion after investigating Xinjiang.
With all that said, I think your conclusion is wrong. You are completely right when you say that media outlets and most of the internet are owned up by a handful of billionaires that control the narrative in their favor, including YouTube. But that doesn’t mean everything produced on these outlets are lies or wrong. On YouTube for example, despite the clear disadvantage, there are communists there subverting the machine to educate people on these issues you are speaking about.
Furthermore, your vision of China comes from these same media outlets you already rightfully criticized. I invite you to rethink what you have been told about China, and any other current socialist countries for that matter, Cuba, Vietnam, Laos and DPRK.
You can lurk or ask around on Lemmygrad if you’re curious and want to learn further about that.
Kras Mazov@lemmygrad.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why aren’t any government making wealth inequality and property supply focused policies?1·4 months agoThat is bullshit. If you are refering to Tiananmen Square, then I highly recommend you watch the channel Felipe Durante on YouTube. He’s a Brazilian living in China and he have talked about it several times, and even talks about how his colleagues talk about it.
This idea that China is some sort of dystopian hell where you cannot talk about this stuff is just a western lie.
