Games@lemmy.world•Bethesda is sending DMCA notices to a Ukrainian fighting the war in the frontlines to take down a classic (Fallout 1/2) engine emulator which doesn't use game files, ROMs, game code, textures, or musiEnglish
5114·12 days agoAs per the reddit post it’s Tracer, a copyright enforcement company working on behalf of Zenimax and Bethesda, not Bethesda directly. I would be surprised if this was intentional because there is nothing but bad PR to gain. It’s probably just a false positive.

Buy European@feddit.uk•I verified where 600+ "European" brands are actually made — here's what surprised meEnglish
35·1 month agoI don’t know about all of them, but of the ones I’m familiar with, Birkenstock and Beyerdynamic, neither is really European anymore. Birkenstock sold a majority stake to L Catterton in 2021. It’s a US American private equity firm. Beyerdynamic was sold to Cosonic in 2025, a Chinese company.
From what I’ve heard Birkenstocks have gone down in quality massively since then even if they’re mostly still produced in Germany. I don’t know how Beyerdynamics has fared since.

Games@lemmy.world•The decision is being made on Stop Killing Games! + The ESA can't stop lying.English
34·3 months agoDespite the negative tone regarding the European side of the initiative in the first half of the video, everything seems to be running smoothly. That not everything would go perfectly from start to finish was to be expected and Ross said as much too. Him and everyone involved in making this happen are doing a great job and I have full trust in them.
It is telling though that the industry has to resort to nothing but lies and disinformation to “make their case.” They have no worthy argument against it and they know it. Hopefully all of those who make the decisions in the end of the day also know that.

591·7 months agoI can recommend Hetzner Storage Boxes. The company is located in Germany, but you can choose server locations in Germany and in Finland. You can set it up with Rclone’s Crypt feature to encrypt all your files.

This is not an excuse. I was adding nuance to the claim made in the title. I also don’t disagree that Bethesda is ultimately responsible for the contractors it hires, and if Tracer made an erroneous DMCA request, Bethesda should take responsibility for correcting it. However, given Bethesda’s previous treatment of similar projects like Daggerfall Unity and OpenMW, I think a simple error is a more plausible explanation than the company being a copyright troll or an intentional action by Bethesda.
