You know, I wonder if unironically less people will move to the UK because of their internet restrictions

From experience, it’s because assholes will sometimes swipe ya down the aisle if you stick out. You have to pull in as much as you can.
I suppose. Ready Player One was just the first thing that came to mind for me. What story do you think would fit better as an analogue?
In the novel, there’s a sense of apathy towards any of the Federal government’s affairs, and society places all of their interest inside the day to day affairs online and through the actions of companies.
It’s even mentioned in one of the opening chapters that, “A reality TV star became the president, and all the government is doing nowadays is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic”. It’s obviously a satirical quote, but the point I was trying to bring is that the average citizen is just burned out, not even caring anymore.
To many in the US, more people are focused on what’s in their public feeds and what new products are coming out far more than political actions. That’s not a good thing.
You’re right, now is one of the most critical times of our political system. It’s not sustainable, the actions being taken are abhorrent, and we should continue to advocate for change.
It’s just comparing our world to fiction might be one of the only coping mechanisms left to avoid being depressed from it all.
“You really think someone would do that? Go on the internet… and tell lies?”
Always has been, pally. Unfortunately merit doesn’t mean anything compared to loyalty and tribalism here, and we were never truly represented at any point federally.
You know, I didn’t expect the Ready Player One book to be so on the money on how inept and irrelevant politics would become in comparison to companies and Internet communities, but here we are.
Hope ordering a pizza in VR is possible soon.

The minecraft modding community is extensive and amazing at bringing endless experiences to you, and the amount of active playthroughs willing to accept new members is likely higher on Minecraft than Minetest instances.
However, if you wish to develop and mod yourself rather than play on pre-existing modded and vanilla content, I could see some great experiences from joining a community on Minetest. But to me, Minetest is a development and educational tool, not a game.
Edit: I would highly recommend playing on the Java edition of the game, rather than bedrock, and feel free to take your time exploring the wealth of updates you likely missed.
Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•"Nuclear Weapons have made the world more peaceful"; Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why?3·4 days agoBut that’s the frustrating thing, isn’t it? The only winning move is not to play… but no one wants to move their pieces from the board.
For as destructive and infuriatingly powerful as they are, these weapons have not been used after 1945. While it may happen within our lifetimes, it is unlikely that they will be used. They are the proverbial gun to our heads that forces us to the bargaining table, rather than the trenches (at least for the world powers).
I don’t think it realistic that nuclear weapons will be decommissioned. If anything, I believe the opposite may be true - nuclear weapons shall serve as a guarantee to all nations who possess them against being absorbed by war, or imperialism.
The next interesting quandary will be when every state who wishes the nuclear guarantee possesses it. Then who knows what will happen. If everyone is “safe”, would no one be in reality?
Will we be set to fight wars with sticks and stones after the blast?
Hard to say. But I’m pessimistic about disarmament. Self-interests and nuclear security are far greater draws than the vision of world peace. At least for our leaders.
It’s quite depressing.
“What, you feel like living forever?”

Love it or hate it, this is exactly why PayPal is good for online transactions. You can just sever it off entirely.

Or GOG/Epic start making moves that appeal to a wider demographic. Or indies publish on their own sites (Vintage Story). Or someone releases a simplistic cracking tool for Steam’s DRM.
There’s a lot more options than you think for those who aren’t happy with the status quo. Going back full circle, on consoles, you are SOL in that situation. PC never had that issue.

I meant your progress that was meant to last forever being dragged out from under you (server shutdown). I guess rugpull might be more for something like scams.

The original list price and the price a customer pays tends to be much lower on PC (many wishlist and wait), and piracy is an option.

I heard some countries are getting the short end of the stick now because of some users VPN routing to another country for deals.
Good on ya, and this sounds like a “por que no los dos” moment.
