There are still good education and scientific channels in YT, but they are currently a minority between a ton of BS, conspiranoic influences and AI crap. Even the AI algorrithm blocked music channels from own authors and artists, due “copyright issues”. YT is dying with this and more and more people go to Odysee to monetize their vids, without these crap and problems.

You can essential use most intern webpage searches as search engine (Wikipedia, Forums, Tech pages, Newspaper, etc.), so you can find always what you need, general or specific information.

To insert a page search in your search engine list, mostly it’s enough to search something in this page, after this editing the URL in the adressbar substituing the search concept with %s (eg. https ://lemmy.ml/search?q=%s) and copy than the URL in your search engine list. In Vivaldi it works also with the right click on the search bar and select “add as search engine” from the context menu.

In the Vivaldi forum there is a threat with the IMHO most extensive list of search engines with corresponding insert codes.

As always, nowadays one source in the web isn’t enough for an deeper research, with or without AI. You find the whole human knowledge in the web, but hidden between 80% BS, conspiranoic sites, stupid influencers, cat images/vids, porn, hentai and other crap. Wikipedia is fine, but also with a grain of salt, good to take also a look on the sources of it’s articles, apart there are also dozends of Wikipedia alternatives, which, depending of the theme are also good for certain researches.

Well, AI gan be a helpfull tool for some tasks in investigations in thousends of documents, astronomy, medicine, physics, etc. but certainly not for substituting the own intelligence, research, creativity or to create cat videos. You never can use AI in your research as is, without additional contrast the corresponding sources, it’s not a toy for everyone, even if big corps include it recently almost everywhere, not to help you, but to spy on you and to train their own AIs with your inputs and data. You don’t really need AI, the internet since decades works well without, even if you already have to research consulting several sources in your traditional web search, to learn to handle Photoshop or better, Gimp, Blender, Krita to create images, even if it cost somewhat more effort as writing a prompt, if you are online for some years it’s also not so complicated to learn a second or third lenguage, even if it is only enough to communicate with others (Spanish, German and English (?) in my case) without the need of an translation tool (Deepl is proprietary and limited in the free version, Google, Bing are a no-go and OpenSource translations are crappy by default). It’s always easy to avoid AI>a little effort and some common sense. There are things we need and things which are an artificial created need for the user, AI is the last one.

Yes, but a lot of people need to use Windows for several reasons and because of this to alleviate the disadvantages of an proprietary soft.

It’s few Microsoft can do legally, there is no change in the OS as such, you need a valid and legal Windows installation to use AtlasOS, they can’t avoid the user choice using other services and tools instead of the inbuild ones, in updates there are only important security updates, which are not a problem if you continuo using the Defender (recomendable). Atlas exist since ~10 Years, also there isn’t a problem with it, same as with the apps to debloat Windows, which also exist since a lot of years. Windows as such is a decent OS, it’s same as others based on Unix. It’s bad because the garbadge, telemetries, AIs and “Services to improve the user experience” in it by default. It’s the same as with stock Android respect de-googled Android and forks, it’s not Android which is bad (it’s in essence Linux), it’s all the crap Google put in it.

Same as I do, the main issue in Windows is a ton of crap and some innecessary telemetries which it has by default. But as said, you can gut it. Installing Portmaster and using it in peace

A lot, you can strip out almost everything in Windows to the level of the OS as such (as I’ve done since years, using the bare OS with only the needed, all other by third party FOSS). The problem in Windows is not this, but that MS calculates that the majority of users do not do it, because many things are undocumented and it is necessary to dive through countless menus and submenus to reach the corresponding configurations, often not very intuitive. This is why there are apps that take care of it. like ShutUp10, Optimizer and similar, or they directly intercept the corresponding layers on the OS like this AtlasOS… But all this can also be done manually without problems, but with the condition that you know well what you are doing, nothing for beginners. Even so, always with a lot of caution.
