  • Anticipatory self defense is a legal under international law. Aiding other countries is self defense is legal ans well. Iran has repeatedly and loudly espoused its desire to destroy Israel. Destroying countries is illegal under international law as well.

    There’s no case law regarding anticipatory self defense, express desire to destroy, and nuclear arms development. So if the strikes on Iranian nuclear sites are covered is as of yet not firmly established.

    You could also argue that Israel and Iran are in continued hostilities, so it’s not a new attack on a country but a continuation of hostilities. See the Iranian rocket attacks and Israeli air strikes from last year. The conflict between these two goes back decades and there has never been a peace treaty.

    Iran is a member of the IAEA voluntarily. Not all countries are.
