The entire sky is a carpet of stars. There’s not an empty spot - there’s always a smaller, fainter star to see. It’s crazy.
As He died to make men holy
Let us die to make things cheap

Lol, no, “the movement” is frowned upon by some because they want to finish up their genocide in peace.
America will soon be the only country in the security council not to recognize Palestine. This is America’s genocide, not only Israel’s. So of course some folks in America will be a bit touchy about people criticizing it.
Some red paint on a building is pretty mild compared to, I don’t know, genocide? Whoever is more upset by this than by every single truck refused entry to or bomb dropped in Gaza needs to take a long hard look at themselves.
I grew up in a green-ish area of this map in Norway, and in Winger it gets pitch black. If theres even faint aurora in tje North we can see it behind the house.
For sure there is some light pollution - we don’t draw the curtains in the evening - but it’s pitch black by any standard observable by humans.
Yeah, the one playlist I missed I had shared with friends. Just haven’t bothered them about it yet :)
I generally listen more to albums than playlists though, so playlists don’t make all that much of a difference.
Yeah, except that I deleted my Spotify account before making the switch and lost all my playlists. :(
There was a sudden failure of the motherboard as far as I can tell, which was a bit disappointing. Suddenly there was just no response. I haven’t taken it to a repair shop yet to see if they can do anything about it.
It had been subject to some abuse up until that point, but I’m not sure exactly why it failed. My smartphones rarely lasted me very long, so I think the FP3 still lasted about twice as long as any other smartphone I have ever had (I had to change the charging port once after extreme rain).
So all in all I was pretty happy with the FP3, but I am expecting the FP5 to last me longer.
Truly decentralized music streaming? 🏴☠️
And curated playlists rather than AI slop.
No, I jumped from 3 to 5.
I’ve heard the FP4 might not have the best battery life, which was a strong argument for me to go for the 5 instead. Overall it seems to me people like every new generation better than the last.
What’s pulling you towards the FP4? Price? I’m sure it’s a perfectly capable device, and should remain so for a while - if my FP3 didn’t die I could have used it for a few years more for sure.
Bummed out that I had to upgrade to a FP5 recently - this looks great. Oh well, at least I can use external monitors with the USB C. :)
I switched to Qobuz and I like it much more than I liked Spotify. Only real complaint is having to use their web client in Linux.
I don’t stream, but I’m thinking of learning how to use torrents. More ethical than Apple or Amazon.
I had to fix some iCloud stuff for an ex, it was an absolute nightmare to deal with. I guess mileage varies. I couldn’t be happier with Nextcloud.
That said, I’m happy there are people who don’t want to sacrifice comfort on here. That’s a really good sign.
I switched from Dropbox to Nextcloud, saved a bunch of money and couldn’t be happier. It’s fantastic open source software. I don’t understand why it’s rarely listed in these guides.
Under my Nextcloud provider (Murena - not the cheapest, but they develop my phone OS so I figured I can support them) I also have OnlyOffice running on the cloud, which is great for co-authoring. And I also get e-mail there of course, though I mostly use e-mail from my web-hosting provider. I think Nextcloud also has video conferencing.
For search I use Qwant for now. I like that they’re slowly developing their own index, yet they are less puritan than Mojeek so the results are a bit more reliable. Haven’t heard of Karma before.
Kinda similar to how right wing Germans don’t support Israel because they love Jews all of a sudden, but because they consider it to be the new final solution to the Jewish question in Germany.
Useful to keep in mind whenever people think Netanyahu represents jews. He’s actually much closer to representing the interest of white American evangelicals. Which should honestly not surprise anyone.
They’re a they, not a he. As in it’s a duo, I’m not even arguing about pronouns.
“And by the way, which one’s Pink”
Ah, sorry, I didn’t realize it was for using the app.
Then I don’t know unfortunately - I’m not signed in to the app myself. Hopefully one day it’ll be possible to sign in there with other fediverse accounts in order to subscribe and leave comments/likes, but not now. :)
I think Piefed is pretty great for following Peertube channels.
Here’s a somewhat general peertube feed, so you can see the UI: https://piefed.social/f/peertube
There’s no real difference, content flows freely between the two platforms.
I’m writing this in piefed - does it make my comment “piefed content”, while your comment is “Lemmy content”?
The distinction makes no sense. And that’s the point - use whatever platform you prefer, enjoy the same content anywhere you go. There is no “piefed content” or “lemmy content”, only content. :)
You could check out another instance, for example https://feddit.online/ , which is visible without signing in.
Piefed.social used to be open for all, but I suspect it needed to be restricted due to AI scrapers. Not sure exactly what the reasoning is though.
You can find a list of instances here: https://fedidb.com/software/piefed
Training LLMs is not surveillance. As long as the platform doesn’t need to know who I am I’m good.
(Though I wish it wasn’t used by capitalists for anything, obviously)
