It sucks so much that if the US kept up with green energy infrastructure (or nuclear power) all these datacenters (not just AI) could be running on abudant and cheap power without killing our environment.

Copilot in VScode is something you’d have to tear out of my cold, dead hands. Pressing Tab to auto complete is so useful. I use the GPT 4.1 model or whatever it is called. I tried Gemini but for some reason it’s complete ass when doing code. Android Studio Gemini is worse than the free tier on the website.

However, I’ve found the Gemini Pro model on the website is incredibly good for information assistance. To give an idea of my current uses, I have two chats pinned on it: fact checking and programming advice. I use the former for general research that would take more than a few minutes of Googling but need an answer now, and the latter for brainstorming code design or technical tutorials (recently had it help me set up a VM in WSL).

One tool I wish I could use is ElevenLabs. Had a friend on the free tier of it make some really cool and convincing voice lines (I forgot what character it was) a long time ago. Looks easy to use too. I can’t justify spending money just to play with it but if I had a purpose for it, I would.

I mean I couldn’t handle horror games even if I was just watching! The hardware stuff is valid though. I used to watch videos of this family play APB wayyy long ago since it was on PC only I think (or paid). Watching others play in a livestream just feels like blue balling yourself though.

I’ve been watching countless PirateSoftware drama videos since it’s the clown that keeps on giving. I never bothered with drama channels on YouTube, so I never realized how much of an industry these people made out of it now that I keep getting recommend them. It’s sickening.

I will also never understand the fascination with streaming. Just play the game, nerd.

I am guilty of chucking Second Wind and Friends Per Second on the TV when there’s nothing good on since they talk about good topics and bother with presentation for a viewing audience, though.

I didn’t get it either until one class in high school (graphic design) had second monitors installed for all work stations halfway through the year. It’s super useful being able to have reading material open on a vertical monitor! Only reason I don’t have one still is because of very limited space (can’t even fit a normal PC).

I did start using my TV as a second monitor recently though for putting Zoom meetings on it. I got tired of having to alt tab back to it every once in a while when doing stuff. TV sits behind my laptop so only like half the screen is visible but it’s good enough!

Ah. Makes sense. I caught a stream once and he pretty much just did discussions with the chat. A lot of his videos were just cuts from his streams when someone asked.

My condolences. I don’t even dislike the voice, his attitude just makes him so punchable. You think he’s some kind of expert at first but then it dawns on you that he’s just confidently stupid.

A comment? Am I misreading your comment or is this just ignorance of the situation? Because PirateSoftware made a whole ass video on the subject way back (the one allegedly rife with misinformation). I remember it on my feed when the campaign was getting traction, but didn’t watch it because my view of him was souring.

From what clips I’ve seen*, PirateSoftware misinterprets the majority of what he addressed. Either maliciously or unknowingly, which is why he was blamed for tanking momentum since that video did get a ton of views (before people wised up to him being a total cunt).

*Yes I know the irony of what I just said there after reading your last paragraph. I believe these terminally online streamers because I would not put it past PirateSoftware to be this awful after watching his videos for a small period and then the subsequent controversies coming out.

I believe Space Station 14 fits your criteria exactly if I’m interpreting it correctly. Space Station 13 would as well if not for the fact that player accounts must still be centralized to a server. That server is currently under a cyber attack, which really shows the importance of decentralization (in this instance, I’m not that big a fan of the concept).

Further edit: after reading your other comments, definitely try out either SS13 or 14. I don’t play much these days because server variety has fallen off a cliff but the idea is all sorts of communities pop up with their own server which could deviate heavily from wherever they forked from. This led to all sorts of different playing experiences. Try some out to see if they fit your preferences.
