No one is arguing for the hypothetical that if you’re somehow linked to a nazi by an infinite number of degrees of separation you’re literally a nazi, as that would make the term nazi, calling people out, and so on, useless. Read it in the only way it makes sense: those with the most power, such as big businesses, platform owners, politicians, and so on, have the responsibility not to platform them, definitely not to fund them, not to normalize them, not to launder their ideas or their acts. And regular people like me or (I assume) you, we still have a responsibility not to tolerate nazis. We have a responsibility to call these people out, to protest, to defend those who are marginalized the most, to organize and stop the worst from happening. Because our politicians sure as hell won’t stop them, and big corporations are already showing their hand.

He’s not simply “against immigration”, he finds Tommy Robinson “heartwarming”. You may not know a whole lot about the far-right, but it doesn’t take a genius to see what he’s doing.

Communists that support Russia have critical support, which means we support some of what they do, such as supporting Cuba during a genocidal blockade, but we still have valid criticisms. You won’t see any of us claim Russia is morally good or some nonsense.

Communists don’t judge countries based on their perceived moral character. Russia, like all countries, acts in the interest of its own ruling class. Right now the interest of their ruling class is aligned with anti-imperialist forces. We understand that imperialism is the primary contradiction, and that as long as we live under a unipolar world order the global majority will only get poorer and more exploited, that climate change will inevitably kill most of us and that those who survive will be tied to the same exploitative forces.

The only reason why some of us come across as “pro-Russia” is because we’re often debunking imperialist propaganda. As long as people are willing to read beyond wikipedia or a genocide-denying newspaper, we’re fine discussing events with a lot more nuance than we get credit for. But it’s a lot easier to pretend we’re crazy Putin-loving tankies, so that’s what you see here.

No, nazis are nazis. If you argue for ethnic cleansing the bare minimum you can expect is some pushback, no one owes your opinions any respect as a baseline.

That’s also just propaganda. When we’re taught random stuff, like philosophy, we don’t necessarily jump off to a negative conclusion. It’s mostly with political stuff where we’re beaten down to think that things like redistribution or socialism is “good in theory but bad in practice”, that “humans are selfish by nature”, that “anyone with power is corrupted so we shouldn’t aim to have it”, and so on, so by the time you encounter leftist theory you don’t treat it with the same grace you would if you read, say, Aristotle, but as a reflection of poor character (“they must have had a secret agenda of domination!”), or poor understanding (“did Marx never hear about human nature? what a dumbass!”) or both. When we actually open up to the idea that people like Marx and Engels and others could be right, and read it with an open mind, we can very easily work out that they were right.

DHH is a very good developer

He has good qualities, or he’d have never become where he is today, but in case you haven’t been around Rubyists much, most of us follow MINASWAN, and he clearly doesn’t. More importantly, he’s also shown support for Tommy Robinson in his own blog. It doesn’t take a genius to see what he’s doing.

Think of it as DHH forcing people to look elsewhere, then. There are plenty of excellent distros out there that aren’t controlled by terrible people and work just fine.

Rolling releases as a whole are a lot better these days, but I agree Fedora is excellent (and it helps to not need the AUR at all)
