This more or less happened to my friend circa ~2000s. They were technically amazing for our age. When the school “database” was deleted they and a friend were suspended for an entire month, almost expelled.

Turns out they had warned their teacher that the files were in a public shared folder and anyone could just literally delete them. No backups, these were grades, assignments, etc for dozens of teachers over many years. They were severely punished for trying to disclose a vulnerability essentially and blamed for the whole thing.

Yes, and child sexual abuse, sexual debut, etc. They are mostly based on questionnaires but children who debut early have universally shitty outcomes in mental health, teenage pregnancy, STDs, depression and suicide, and even total lifetime earnings. Do a pubmed search.

I’m sure there are also many folks who pirate immorally, like from smaller artists, or because they’re broke. But pro-piracy usually means in the boycott sense.

Hmm I still think we’re saying different things. Enabling piracy for consumers and rejecting it for big business come from the same beliefs. I replayed it recently and the hidden mechanics are just bad game design. Not docking the game but there’s no way to tell the reasons for certain scenario failures, even when addressing all the customer thoughts and using all existing information.

One time I used a GameShark mid game for a Zelda game, I saved my file and came back later to find that by maxing out, I had ruined my save file and lost all my progress. I cried my eyes out and it took days to get back, boringly replaying the game.

I always wondered if that was an intentional lesson by the GameShark devs… ChatGPT seems designed to make you act against your best self interest.

Being bored was the healthy part, developmentally speaking.
