Same! I liked that we got to see their backstory fleshed out some more. Regarding the hobbits:
One sort of tease we got in the end for the hobbits I thought was interesting is establishing the origins of the Shire.
I haven’t read the books, so I don’t know just how much is left on the table, but season 3 feels like it may be a good place for the series to end given what’s been covered already.

I’m all caught up, and honestly I liked it. There was a hell of a lot to cram into 8 episodes, but I thought it was still fun. At the very least it’s a very beautiful show.
