President accuses corporation of ‘intentionally, maliciously and deceptively’ editing speech in Panorama broadcast

Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against the BBC over its editing of a speech he made to supporters in Washington before they stormed the US Capitol in 2021, requesting up to $10bn in damages.

The US president alleged the broadcaster “intentionally, maliciously, and deceptively” edited his 6 January speech before the insurrection, in an episode of Panorama just over a year ago.

In a complaint filed on Monday evening, Trump sought $5bn in damages each on two counts: alleging that the BBC defamed him, and that they violated Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.

It was filed at the US district court for the southern district of Florida – even though BBC iPlayer, the main streaming platform that carries Panorama, and BBC One, the main TV channel that broadcasts it, are not available in the US. The episode never aired in the US.

The BBC has slowly been captured by Tory and right-wing heads who probably see capitulating as a valid option, and the Labour government is so limp that they would veto any serious retaliation from the BBC.

      This.

Their formal response should be “no”.

He can’t sue in British court and he’s forever saying how British and european institutions don’t have authority over American tech companies.

Seriously. This seems performative. And how did they edit it exactly? Did they have him say things he didn’t fucking say?

The documentary cut two sentences together that in reality were 50min apart, and made it seem like he explicitly ordered the assault on the Capitol. It was a bad misjudgment and it raises questions about how it made it to the air.

$1B to $10B already? Hell why not add another zero, go for $100B…

Or maybe just don’t be a dog whistling arse who would have let his VP swing from the gallows your klansmen built if he thought it’d keep him in office?

Did the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES really receive any material damage from reporting that occurred about him while he was PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES?
