To the next commenter who didn’t read the article and thinks this is about red maga hats:

But knitted protest headwear has a new look in 2026, thanks to the popularity of a red “melt the ICE” hat pattern shared online by a yarn shop in the suburbs of Minneapolis.

The red tasselled hat, called a nisselue in Norwegian, was a symbol of patriotism and protest against Nazi occupation during the Second World War.

My comment literally mentions red (caps) hats in reference to MAGA because MAGA ruined red hats (caps). Ruining the positivity of the red hats in the article. Similar to the swastika, which symbolized peace, until the fucking nazis ruined that.

The red hats are the modern age swastika. What once was an innocent thing, is now ruined by a group of ignorant racist piece of shit human beings.

I won’t even wear a sports hat if their color is red. If someone sees it from the wrong angle it might as well be a maga hat. Hell, red sports hats are too similar even if only viewed from the front with logo in plain sight.

The red hats in the article literally come from historical resistance to Nazis:

The “melt the ICE” hat takes inspiration from Norway, according to staff of Needle & Skein yarn shop in St. Louis Park, Minn., who shared the pattern on the popular crafting site Ravelry last month. Minnesota has one of the highest concentrations of residents who claim Norwegian ancestry, according to state demographers.

The red tasselled hat, called a nisselue in Norwegian, was a symbol of patriotism and protest against Nazi occupation during the Second World War.

The hats from the article are not the same type of hats though. They resemble the Canadian toque, I suppose, or in Norway, “lue”. Similarly we would call the MAGA dome + sun shade kind of hat “caps”.

I have a red ball cap in the same Nazi shade of red that I have from when I was a firefighter in the navy. It sucks that I have not been able to wear it for years. I would never want to be lumped in with that group.

Same I used to wear a red hat with my favorite comic character on it. I had to switch to a black version due to repelling the groups I wanted to be around and attracting the groups I didn’t want to be in the same room with. I could tell a noticeable difference after I switched. They see red hat and feel uneasy even when its not the correct hat.

I’ve caught myself thinking like this too. It’s honestly pretty hard not to see any red hat as a possible sign of a fascist.

Just adding to the hat discussion, I have a red RedHat hat, although it’s quite faded now, I’m not going to stop wearing it. I was rocking a red hat before it was cool stupid!

You can buy the pattern and knit it in a different color, but yeah, the color red is now tainted, even though this isn’t the same shade.

Canada’s colours are red and white.

Just stay away from red trucker’s caps and you’re fine.
