Actually iran asked that only official flags be allowed.
They did not specifically target nor mention the pride flag.
Just like those completely innocuous laws in Idaho that were definitely not tacitly targeted at pride flags.
My guess is their intention is to ban the Lion and Sun flag, and banning the pride flag is a happy coincidence for them.

I doubt they care about the rainbow flag. They probably have higher priorities right now.
Political unrest in their own country or flags of hatred probably were the intended target.
But in that case it was very clearly an attack on the rainbow flag. That was their intention.
I don’t think anyone was speculating. The people pushing it specifically said it was against the pride flag.
What makes a flag “official”?
Well, there is the Canadian flag that we should have gotten, and then there is the official flag. However the Pennant should have a blue strip at the top too, in order to represent the arctic ocean.
It should have a brown stain at the bottom too.
