Servicemembers are poor children that we gave TBI’s to. Blame the assholes giving orders

I find it very strange that we hate cops so much only to immediately turn around and revere people who’ve served in the military.

They both serve the state, the only difference (and a relatively arbitrary one at that) is the police suppresses internally whereas the military suppresses externally. They’re both geared toward the exact same end of controlling the opposition.

You can say that “they’re just following orders” but I don’t think I should have to go into detail about the pitfalls of that argument.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t revere the military. I just see them as abused kids. At least the enlisted folks.

The fucks giving orders can burn with the cops.

But fair point. Both cops and soldiers choose to do their job (at least for now). And both kill black and brown people.

the vast majority of the people I met while serving were in it for the education and housing benefits and had no intention of making a life out of service.

it says something about our society - you have to have a degree to get ahead (society tells us) and housing is neigh unreachable without some kind of assistance that comes at great cost.

for the critics / anti-war types, I’d just add that the military is a microcosm of the entire society - there’s decent, kind people, and also, there’s chuds, pogues and racists, it’s a distillation of everything you get in the real world, just cooked down into a smaller body.

They specifically avoided TBIs for us Navy Nukes, but plenty of emotional trauma teaching us to do everything as our Lord and Savior Admiral Hymen Rickover proscribed.
