Man that’s rougher than I expected. 0/3, either we got really unlucky or supply vs. demand is way out of whack :(
Edit: Here’s a website that’s giving some rough estimates! https://steamframeout.com/
Edit 2: And this one: https://steamhardware.io/tracker/steam-frame/
Waitlist, both for me and my nephew. I hate the lottery system.
It’s the fairest solution imo. What would you prefer? A bot beating you to the punch?
I have managed to get every single Valve hardware I wanted to get so far (Deck, Deck OLED, Controller), just by showing up on time and being patient with the servers. Until now. So for me personally, my experience with the old system has been better.
They already had bot prevention measures by requiring a game purchase on Steam etc just like they did for the Frame. If a bot managed to buy a Steam Controller, it could also have entered the lottery for the Frame. So I’m not sure that there is that much of an advantage in that regard. Ebay is full of scalpers already.
The purchase history has to be older than the stream controller, so those bots are not eligeable (requirement is April, controller released on may).
The bot/scalper problem wasn’t such an issue before. The deck oled had stock for many days in my region.
In theory they are already prioritizing old/verified accounts, demand is just much higher than supply.
I hope you get lucky with you place on the wait list, I think this was the best solution to a very shitty situation.
I didn’t get it two of my friends did.
Four friends entered, 2 got it. I was expecting worse ratio.
Same, and still on the wait-list (me and my partner) for the Machine. Some rough luck for us!!
Damn, that email meant I missed the draw?
I’ve missed every steam lottery draw and this one sucks the most. 50% odds, too, apparently.
If it says waitlist, then yes. If it says reservation list, you made it!
Oh yay, I got the email saying “reservation queue” and wasn’t really sure what that meant - I assumed it was “you’ve not won this round, but you’re in the queue if someone drops out”.
yay!
Oh snap, I misread it! It says reservation.
Thanks for the comment!

I own three Steam Decks and my account was made when Half Life 2 released. I have been “past” the wait-list on both the Machine and the Frame.
Like, oh well, but still.
I got lucky and got onto the reservation list for a 1TB model!
(Germany)
also got lucky, with the 256gb model!
That reminded me to check my email and I’m in queue for the 1Tb. I think this might rate my first woot in over a decade.
Woot!
Woot!

I got into the reservation Queue, US
Wait, there’s another queue?
Yeah there’s a reservation queue (you’ll get it soon) and a waitlist (not so soon).
Meanwhile I’m still waiting for my Steam Machine reservation 😭
That’s definitely some rough luck. Hopefully you’re on the next round!
I was lucky enough to make it on the 1TB reservation queue in the US!
I also managed to make the reservation list! In the US.
I’m amazed, I literally never win anything. I very much expected to be on the wait-list.
I got lucky and got in the queue.
That’s awesome! So jealous though
Same, had a couple of friends join the list and myself and one friend got lucky. Wish it were cheaper, but I’m excited.
Yup, waitlist. Very sad. At least we can share in the sadness together.

Yeah me too.
What does it mean if I received nothing?
It means you died. Please give my condolences to your friends and family. If you do get an email that your reservation was approved, please forward it along to me for further inspection.
rip
The emails are sent out in batches (according to someone in this thread, it does make sense though). It means the email batch you’re in wasn’t sent yet, so you still have to wait for the email. I also haven’t gotten an email yet.
That seems…not good.
Depends on how they’re deciding ordering. It could be that earlier waitlist emails mean higher on the list. But it could also be a different system.
It could also be when you put in to the raffle, you’re in line. Then on raffle close time, they start at the beginning of the line and rng you a number between 1 and the number of people in line, setting your order, and if you get a number within however many units they have, you win a reservation. With the waves of emails just being them going through chunks of people, eliminating undesirables and cheaters and bots and stuff.
Like the first 10 people who put in initially could all get the highest (worst) numbered slots in the order. And if you haven’t gotten an email at all yet, you could still rng slot #1, assuming it’s available.
It could also just be a massive shuffle at all once and them just vetting the accounts.
I’m really curious to how they’re actually doing it. It could absolutely be more robust, and it’s exciting to imagine them really getting carried away with the method. Like total rng ordering with tie breaking or something silly. Or like a recursive iterative sort for no reason. These raffles ran by scientists can get crazy nerdy quickly. Maybe they’ll talk about it and have done something like use hl2 to order stuff somehow.
Not necessarily, people seem to be getting a mix of wins and loses all day long.
I doubt it’s just “send all the wins, then all the loses”
I mean none of this makes much sense to me. I dunno why they don’t just send them all at once…but it seems like sooner would be better than later.
I also landed on the waitlist. Sad :(
