Some 78% of Americans blame Donald Trump’s policies for rising prices that are outpacing their earnings, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll that found majorities of Republicans and Democrats citing the cost of living as their top concern ahead of next month’s midterm elections.

57% of Trump’s Republicans said that costs have been growing faster than their paychecks, a stark example of how his pursuit of import tariffs, war with Iran ‌and other policies have clashed with a central 2024 campaign promise to kill inflation and lower prices “on day one.”

Inflation instead has increased, to the point where the US Federal Reserve has pivoted to rate hikes to quell price increases policymakers have attributed to a variety of factors, including rising global energy costs following the start of the Iran war, and the administration’s imposition of aggressive import taxes.

Actually this is kind of refreshing. I think the usual number is like 35%. We’re making progress!

Honestly, that’s much less than the last time somebody wrote that.

But the real percentage we will learn when election results come in.

There are a significant chunk that properly blame him and the Republicans keeping his in power, but will still vote R down the ballot because that’s what they always do.

Something really fucked up is at the same time Social Security Payments under the Trump admin have decreased in both amounts individual and total, though I don’t have the full data for years after 2024, yet. What we do know is Social Security spent 1.61 Tn USD total in 2024 and 1.58 Tn in 2025 at a large deficit to its income for social security taxes. Normally it increases to adjust for inflation.

Go ahead. Blame and don’t do anything in November. Guess who’s responsible for the next decade of problems?

GOP has to be continually blamed for multiple elections(IE,winning them) in a row, and maybe finally people start to vote against them, maybe though. i think people are stuck with NEWSOME has the only “serious” candidate.

Just you watch. Trump seems bulletproof, it won’t affect the midterms. This is the same as the first time he ran, or even the second time. Every news outlet saying he won’t win. Look where we are now.

Overall costs? I believe it would. But it’s entirely possible that he manages to blind them temporarily with lower fuel prices.

It seems to take weeks for fossil fuels to make a sea voyage. How quick can Russian diesel make to the US and be distributed? Will the market anticipate the arrival or will mystery drones take out the tankers?

Oh the times we live in!

I think he might be counting on the announcement being the news he needs. It’s like the $5000 check after the election: there is always some fool that thinks Trump is going to fix everything after the votes are counted.

Oh really, the guy who constantly goes around yelling about how he is making everything more expensive around the world might be responsible for everything getting more expensive, eh?

…and that’s all that matters, isn’t it? So we just have to hope that prices don’t go down before the next election, right?

I just commented elsewhere on Trump buying oil from Russia before the midterms: we will see if the American Public as a whole has learned anything in the last 10 years.
