There’s a separate thread for the Senate elections, because that’s far, far easier to track than the House races and the Gubernatorial races.

Consider this thread open to everything else! House, Governor, state and local measures, everything else!

Polls start closing at 7 PM Eastern, 4 PM Pacific. My plan is to be obsessively posting results as they come in.

Current standings:

US House of Representatives:
Republicans: 218
Democrats: 214
Vacant: 2
Independent: 1

Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX23) resigned 04/14/2026.

Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL20) resigned 04/21/26.

Rep. Kevin Kiley (CA3) flipped from R to I in March, 2026.

Every seat is up for re-election with 218 necessary for a majority.

Update Current called races put the House at 238 D, 146 R, with 51 still undecided. As near as I can tell, all of the flips have been R->D. Not a single Republican flipped a Democratic seat.

Musk still proved that he’s a Trillion are willing to dump $400++ million into elections for the lulz.

It’s still a bad thing. Trillionare didn’t even waste 0.1% of his wealth on this election.

We need campaign finance reform, or at a minimum a concerted effort to punish Musk (and other Billionaires) who fuck with our elections.

But we’ve still got two years of the shitstain, so it’s going to be tough for a while.

We also have to keep the same pressure on the Dem Congress we were putting on the MAGA Congress (or even more because that wasn’t enough either).

How many more DSA and generally anti-genocide politicians are in power now? Michigan even elected the anti-Fetterman in El-Sayed. The anti-genocide bloc is no longer a tiny fringe group, it DECIMATED AIPAC last night.

The pro-universal healthcare bloc is no longer a tiny fringe group. The people DECIMATED private healthcare funded Super PACs last night.

People need to understand we accomplished last night. We sent a message to the DNC that every Dem who defies their voter base can lose, no matter how much money they fight is with.

      We CANNOT lose that energy

YES! For some reason, this is where everyone gets lost. We have these people talking about how voting Democrat won’t matter because they’re still not going to be effective, they’re not left enough, there’s no point in ever voting or performing your civic duty and that we should all give up and die.

But like, take the energy and anger you have against Republicans and apply that to the Democrats et. al. when they actually have some kind of power. NOW is the time to push for change. Lean on the old gaurd and show them what we want out of their party. We just showed that we’ll cut out the rotted growth of America if given the chance. Dems that don’t get the picture should be next.

        The fight has ONLY begun.

I can’t believe I’m about to go to sleep and have an actual, real chance of waking up to a blue Texas. It was mythical, intangible, a flight of fancy. And now I might see it with my own two eyes. I know I shouldn’t have even looked but I just couldn’t resist.

Governor, AG, LG, RR commish - wild. I’m elated. I didn’t think it possible, even in hopeful years past. That LG get is massive due to our ridiculous state lege. Anything else majority-wise is icing at this point. I know it’s not a universal rebuke across the country, even as things are going well. But I didn’t in my wildest dreams expect the absolute trouncing in the state. All TX Supreme Court seats went blue by good margins too.

'The Trump regime continues to attack all the independent institutions in this country that have traditionally served as buffers against tyranny – universities, non-profits, lawyers and law firms, the media, science and researchers, libraries and museums, the civil service and independent agencies – threatening them with extermination or loss of funding if they do not submit to its oversight and dictatorial demands. Trump even instructed the Department of Justice to investigate ActBlue, the platform that handles the fundraising for almost all Democratic candidates and the issues Democrats support. We are no longer Democrats or Republicans. We are either patriots fighting the regime or we are complicit in its tyranny. There is no middle ground. Trump is still actively destroying the economy. His proposed tariffs are still raising prices. His attacks on the Fed chief, Jerome Powell, persist in causing tremors around the world. Trump wants total power, even at the cost of our democracy and economy. His polls are plummeting yet many Americans are still in denial. “He’s getting things done!” some say. “He’s tough and strong!” Every American with any shred of authority must loudly and boldly explain the danger we are still in.

They sorta just came out and said it. They think we’re “unhumans” that need to be killed. We’re not real humans so the law can’t protect us. JD Vance waved around a manifesto saying conservatives need to load up their muskets and ignore the rules. A lot of us believe them when they say they want us to die.

Lmao. People left California because the cost of living is too high because so many people want to live there (and because the state government is too capitalist to do anything to make it affordable). So they went to Texas, where it’s cheap because no one wants to live there because it’s even more capitalist.

Mississippi was called R, but super close: ~15,200 vote difference with 92% reporting. That would have been insane. I wonder if it’s in recount territory. (Independent Ty Pinkins got 19,000 votes, for what it’s worth.)

    https://abcnews.com/Politics/mississippi-2026-live-midterm-election-results/story?id=136767242

Edit: Too close to call, probably going to head to recount territory either way. Colom ahead by 48(!) votes as of 1:12 AM:

AP hasn’t called Sec. State or House D2, but they are not looking good. I was expecting a R sweep, but I was really really wanting to get rid of Cotton.

EDIT: Sorry, I lost the thread context. The above was about my state of Arkansas (where Rs are going to sweep).

Great! More blue in the South can only be good. I hope the Ds down here can focus on Working-class issues. If we could get a generation of blue-collar workers (incl. farmers and ranchers) that don’t automatically vote R “for economic reasons”, we might also see some movement on other attitudes.

"Donald Trump has spent a decade poisoning American politics, destroying reputations, threatening opponents and bending the Republican Party to his will. Today, finally, America turned on him. But the sheer scale of his humiliation could prove every bit as devastating as the reckoning now awaiting him. In the USA there are very powerful interests who demand “freedom” in order to do as they like with the environment, society and the economy. They have infused a very large part of American culture with the belief that “freedom” is literally more important than life. My freedom to own assault weapons trumps your right not to get shot at school. Now, my freedom to go to the barber (“I Need a Haircut” read one banner this week in St Paul, Minnesota) trumps your need to avoid infection. Usually when this kind of outlandish idiocy is displaying itself, there is the comforting thought that, if things were really serious, it would all stop. People would sober up. Instead, a large part of the US has hit the bottle even harder. And the president, his party and their media allies keep supplying the drinks. There has been no moment of truth, no shock of realisation that the antics have to end. No one of any substance on the US right has stepped in to say: get a grip, people are dying here. That is the mark of how deep the trouble is for the US – it is not just that Trump has treated the crisis merely as a way to feed tribal hatreds but that this behaviour has become normalised. When the freak show is live on TV every evening, and the star is boasting about his ratings, it is not really a freak show any more. For a very large and solid bloc of Americans, it is reality. And this will get worse before it gets better. Trump has many months in power. In his inaugural address he evoked “American carnage” and promised to make it stop. But now that the real carnage has arrived, he is revelling in it. He is in his element. As things get worse, he will pump more hatred and falsehood, more death-wish defiance of reason and decency, into the groundwater. If a new administration succeeds him in future it will have to clean up the toxic dump he leaves behind. If he returns in some way, toxicity will have become the lifeblood of American politics. Either way, it will be a very long time before the rest of the world can imagine America being great again.’
