Yep. I grew up in deeply red, deeply rural area. Most of the small farms were propped up by tax dollars. Even the farmers I knew would point this out to me. Same for a whole lot of extremely poor people I grew up with - lunches were subsidized (free or reduced lunch depending on need) at school, and I think some kids didn’t get a breakfast at home because things were tight.
