He’s more American than any of the ICE terrorists out there.
Well, brown people, yeah. I thought that was obvious.
Sen. Dick Durbin, an Ilinois Democrat, urged his Republican colleagues not to “turn a blind eye to the dire consequences of confirming” Bove to a lifetime position as a circuit court judge.
Turn a blind eye? This guy is willing to tell progressive and liberal judges to fuck off. The republican senators are all fully erect at the opportunity to appoint him.
we shouldn’t leave the grail light on.
Oh, wicked, bad, naughty Zoot! She has been setting a light to our beacon, which, I’ve just remembered, is Grail shaped.
As I understand it, they are, in away. Many are moving to less draconian states where they can still practice evidence based medicine, or even to other countries.
Yep. If you don’t give those judges any due process then they can’t actually prove that they are citizens, let alone SCOTUS justices. Just pack them off to a torture prison somewhere and wash your hands of them. It’s the American way now.
I can absolutely understand providers being skittish about anything even remotely borderline with these laws in place,
And that is the whole issue here in a nutshell. Doctors and nurses are putting their careers and freedom on the line just brushing up against these draconian laws. If I were in their shoes I too would be very skittish.
I’m neither a doctor nor a woman, but can they really draw a line saying this day is in the sixth week and tomorrow is in the seventh? A line that would hold up in court if it had to?
I missed the human smuggling part.
That’s okay. It’s complete bullshit. DeSantis and Abbott have both done the same thing Kilmar Ábrego García is accused of and they haven’t been charged.
They do indeed have options, but as I posted, there has been a huge uptick in threats against judges this year including threats against their families. It’s not the marshal’s or police who would be in real danger arresting an ICE agent. It would be the judge who gave the order. It will take a judge with real courage to issue that order.
You’re not wrong, but it takes tremendous courage to be the first through the door when you know you are likely to die for it.
A parishioner driving a pickup truck hit the man and the church security team locked the front doors and exchanged gunfire with the man, police said.
Armed church security team, wow. That whole sentence is as American as apple pie, General Motors, and school shootings.
I agree, but you have to understand the courage it will take to do it. The first judge who does so could end up dead, and maybe their family too. Threats against judges have been dramatically increasing(archive.ph link). Every one of them has to be thinking, if I hit any of these thugs with a contempt charge, my family could be killed. Would you do it? I don’t know if I could unless I knew my family were in hiding or surrounded by armed security.
The U.S. Marshals Service investigated 373 separate threats to judges in the first five months of 2025, compared with 509 probes all of last year, according to agency data that U.S. District Judge Esther Salas of New Jersey shared with The Washington Post. The threats targeted 277 judges, some of whom were threatened more than once, compared with 379 judges threatened in all of 2024.
The Marshals Service is also reviewing more than 100 anonymous, unsolicited pizza deliveries to judges and their families in at least seven states and the District of Columbia in recent months — incidents that the judges and investigators see as ominous messages to the recipients that the sender knows who they are and where they live.
Some of the deliveries went to judges handling lawsuits against the Trump administration, The Post has reported. At least 20 deliveries have been made in the name of Salas’s son, Daniel Anderl, who was fatally shot at the family’s home in 2020 by a disgruntled lawyer posing as a delivery person.
Gotta make sure they spread that radioactive material as far and wide as possible.
I don’t disagree. If nothing else, it forces Republicans in the House and maybe even the Senate to go on record supporting Trump’s crimes, so that maybe in the midterms we can take away their domination in Congress, but it is not the real solution. This administration is the GOP’s recurring wet dream for the last 40 years. They will do anything to keep Trump in office.
To get him removed from office, you have to first get the House to vote (50%) to Impeach him. That is actually doable. But then the Senate has to hold a trial and somehow get 67 senators to vote to convict him. That would take every Dem and Independent and something like 20 Republicans to vote to convict. I agree with you, but I don’t see that happening.
The only other way is by using the 25th Amendment which says, in part:
Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.
Vance and all of Trump’s appointed toadies would have to send a letter to the House and Senate saying Trump in not capable of being president. And even if, by some miracle that happened, the next step is for Congress to hold votes in both the House and the Senate needing two-thirds of both houses to declare that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Even if they somehow pulled that off in the House, it would still take 18 or 20 Republican senators to cross over and vote him out.
I just don’t see any legislative way out of this. The Republicans in the House and Senate are simply not going to let it happen. They have too much power and no morals.
Actually, it is unfair, unfair that anyone is homeless.
I’ve not seen the 13 million number posted anywhere. Do you have a link, perchance? Also, I have no clue what a 3.5% rule is.
I think that the protests have finally gotten the politically uninformed to look around and see what’s happening. Most of those “independents or those who don’t identify with either major party” are just not in the habit of informing themselves about policy. Many, or maybe even most, get the bullet points on the daily news and that’s it. Now, somewhere north of 6 million people have protested Trump’s policies and the news has been covering it. It has shaken them out of their routine. They’ve looked around and educated themselves and realized that this is not normal.
I hope this means the next round of protests hits the 10 million people mark.
Freedom Caucus: We will not support the changed bill because it will not hurt or kill enough people.
