  • For sure we know Waymo is far ahead, there can be absolutely no doubt about that.
In much the same way we also know that Mercedes is ahead, as their autonomous driving has been legally acknowledged for partial self driving.
Cruise (General Motors) was also clearly ahead of Tesla, but General motors ended the competing program to Waymo because after an accident it wasn’t considered safe enough, but it was still way ahead of Tesla. And the program had actual self driving services without a human supporting it.
But Also Ford was recognized as being ahead of Tesla, but despite that, they have backed down and has decided to slow down on fully autonomous driving.

So we know for a fact that Tesla is at best number 5, and that’s assuming every Chinese company is behind.

GM and Ford have switched to use their research for driver assist systems, and are no longer focusing on or claiming fully autonomous driving. So if we count them out, Tesla may be as high as number 3 now.

  • Putin had a very insecure childhood, and he learned from a rat, that lashing out violently could scare off an attacker way bigger than yourself.
Unless he is extremely delusional, he is probably very worried ATM, because FSB (KGB) seems to be removing some of his strongest supporters.
So Putin may be nearing the end of the line, and he knows it. So he is lashing out because he is scared, while at the same time trying to appear calm and in control.
Putin is becoming more and more isolated. He is losing popular support, because the population is beginning to feel the costs of the war. He is also losing support from the elite, because the failure of Russia to defend their oil industry, has sown doubt that he can protect Kremlin and Moscow. And they too probably see their positions as being in danger. Finally even the FSB seems to be contemplating a shift in power, and they have moved way more boldly and apparently independent from Putin in later months.

So it seems Putin has enemies all around him, and he is probably paranoid already as a result of his childhood. So even if the threats are only superficial, he is most likely afraid. And many Russians don’t believe he can win the war anymore, and even if they believe he can, many don’t think it’s worth it, because they will take over only ruins, and it will be expensive to rebuild, when the Russian infrastructure is already failing as it is.

So if you think it’s exciting to live dangerously, I’m sure Putin has a lot of excitement right now.
Putin has been lucky so far that Moscow is having a mild winter, when the winter gets cold, many Russians will freeze, and many will run out of money, and things may heat up in other ways.

  • That a majority still think Trump is better on economy is outright insane, and decidedly contrary to the evidence.

    Edit:
I wonder how the downvoters figure this isn’t contrary to the evidence?:

Inflation is just as high now as when Trump took over, while comparable countries have declining inflation.
Trump claimed he would bring jobs back in production, but instead we are seeing job losses.
The economy is slowing down despite the AI bubble. While even Canada is growing by a healthy 3% despite the sanctions by USA, The world economy is healthy, but USA is completely unable to take advantage of that or even keep up!
Trump has increased the deficits a lot, by his extreme tax cuts for the 1%.
With a slower economy and heavy tax cuts, there is no doubt the national debt will skyrocket under Trump.
DOGE was a complete and utter failure, that ended up costing more than it saved!
Trump is increasing cost for Americans on healthcare, undermining a lot of private economies.

What is the evidence that Trump did anything good for the economy? Anything at all!?

  • Well done, keep it up. 👍
I already didn’t use any American services much except Steam, and although it is American, Steam has been fair and has done tremendous work for Linux, which helps independence from plethora of other American companies. So I’m still using Steam.

But I’m not buying a lot of American goods I used to like: Californian wine, Bourbon, Heinz (Kraft), Palmolive, Gillette, Coca Cola. Marabou (also Kraft), Some times when I’m in doubt I read the label, that’s not enough to detect a company like Marabou or cloth softeners that have local names and are made in France but owned by Palmolive, our replacement for that is Noora that is made by a Spanish company. Wife doesn’t want the cheap brands. 😋

In short I’m personally going to great lengths to avoid American brands even when they are made in Europe. If I can get a true European product or from another democracy than USA I go for that. We are keeping it up as long as USA is acting crazy, and I hope enough people are doing it to make it noticeable for American companies.

  • Yes in principle, except USA has very low export of goods compared to the size of the economy.
So it will stimulate exports some. But despite the decline of the dollar happened already this year, the export of goods has declined anyway. Because Trump is a moron and has made everybody angry with USA.
The weak dollar has NOT increased exports, but together with tariffs it has caused inflation to be a higher than it otherwise would have been. And the weak dollar is caused by a lack of capital influx (investments) to USA, and less investments means fewer new jobs.

  • Yes Putin is a master of deception, and the money he pumped into the economy early on made people think the war was great for the economy, and a lot of people were happy because they were doing well for themselves.
But now we have reached the point where the truth becomes evident, and I’m shocked the truth about the economy weighs heavier than the horrors of the war.
There is no way you can morally just not care about the people from the remote provinces, and even if you do, you should be able to realize that there is only so much they can take. Maybe they will come for “you” next!

  • How did it take more than 8 years to legally arrive at that obvious conclusion?

The judge agreed with the state DMV’s request to suspend Tesla’s sales and manufacturing licenses in the state for 30 days as a penalty for its actions, but the DMV stayed the order and is giving Tesla 60 days to comply. Tesla will now have to either drop the Autopilot name or ship software to its cars that make them autonomous, or it will have those licenses suspended.

The company has signaled it won’t comply, though. Tesla said in a post on X that: “Sales in California will continue uninterrupted.”

    This is absolutely insane!!
