Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Women of Ask Lemmy, what are your thoughts on this phrase, "if the bra and panties match, you weren't the one who decided to have sex tonight."
3·1 day agoI’ll just say, as a guy, I absolutely had pairs of boxer briefs I’d wear when I was going out as a younger man. I even still have some, but I’m married with two kids, and so they’re for when I’m staying in now.
But that being said, just because I wore them didn’t mean I was hooking up with someone. And that could be her choice or my choice, it’s gotta be a mutual thing. So at the most it indicates a potential intent. But I had times I wore my shit and chose not to for one reason or another at the end of the night. And probably ten times more the choice was made for me.
Ha, totally agree, that’s “kay” phonetically to me, and I never took Spanish and understand and speak only a smattering from having heard enough through jobs.
You’re metering it to one punch balloon every couple minutes! And when you wake up, you have another. It’s self-regulating.
I would like to say I’m 10+ years out from the days I’d drive down to Bristol PA and pick up two or three 20 pound tanks from some random fire safety place. Definitely abusable, and easily so. We’d pound a 5h energy and Gatorade after and you’re right as rain, which is not good, needs to be harder to feel fine after.
In fairness, if queue gives you pause when you write it out, it’s entirely reasonable to be like “There’s already a ue, why would there need to be another ue?”

politics @lemmy.world•U.S. plans to stop recommending most childhood vaccines, defer to doctors
3·2 days agoYeah, I think the suggestion that insurance companies wouldn’t cover them is crazy. It will be significantly more expensive for them to cover widespread illness than vaccines. Everything is money to them. Shit, there could be incontrovertible proof vaccines cause autism, and insurance companies would say hey, it’s cheaper than measles, you must do it or we won’t cover you.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•I cannot imagine what lawsuit led to this
15·2 days agoWe should do a fun run to raise money for victims of corrugated cardboard abuse.
Litre is French for give me some fucking cola before I break vous fucking lips!
I’ve had vehicles that you needed to keep the RPMs up. Automatics. Shifting into neutral also generally did the trick, so presumably was a transmission issue that I had no interest in diagnosing and paying for. Maybe the torque converter, now that I think on it.
My favorite are British English, who can’t stand the French to the point that they say things like filet with a hard T.
This also reminds me of a recent trip to Colorado, where they do the same thing with Spanish words, anglicizing all of them. Salida (sa-LIE-da) is the first one that’s coming to mind, but I know there are other cities in Colorado that are clearly Spanish words that they’ve just abused.
I appreciate everything you’re saying. And at the same time I get why so many people are just burnt out. I can’t get there myself, obviously you can’t either. I won’t let my life go to shit no matter how burnt out I am, I’ll control the things in it that I can, and just eat the rest of it, I guess. I feel like sometimes all I got is the dishes, clean counters, that sort of thing, and if I let that go, I’m letting go.

4·6 days agoI get powder from Costco. They have Kirky brand that is not only about half the price of Metanucil, but the dosage is also about a third, so in reality you’re getting like 4-6 times as much, depending on your definition of “rounded.” Kirky is also sugar free, using stevia I think, although I’m sitting in a car right now so this is all from memory, and my memory ain’t the best.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is entertainment getting worse or am I getting old?
61·7 days agoYeah, it’s just a common thing generationally to pine for the days of olde, and for my generation it was apparently playing outside and then early internet, and OP was there for the YouTube heyday, and I can probably commiserate with them, but by the same token I’m like, well, YouTube ruined my favorite medium, whatever that was.
It extends into everything. Music, my favorite band’s earlier records were better, the new kids in the scene have ruined it, etc. etc. Nostalgia is a real bitch, unfortunately, and we’re all just stuck on Mr. Bones wild ride with no way off it.
I think part of it is experience. You’ve seen it. You’ve heard it. You were there for it, and it now just feels old. But I always tell people who never watched The Wire or Breaking Bad that I’m jealous that they get to experience then for the first time. There are only so many greats out there, and you experience them, and you reflect on everything else you experience in that light now.
That’s all not to say that there won’t be some great shit you’ll experience again. You’ve just experienced so much great shit already that this new great shit has a higher bar. It’s your first love. The first time you ate apple pie ice cream. The first time you heard a song that just touched you. Everything else gets measured up against it, and at 15, for the first time, shit seemed better, but only by comparison.
Getting old is a ride OP. The biggest hill on the rollercoaster is always the first one, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy the corkscrew or that sharp turn later on. I’m sitting here at Kalahari with my kids, and I go down slides on my own and they don’t hit the same, but going down ones with my kid all of a sudden puts a new spice on an old recipe.
I have friends who continue to chase the dragon, and that works for them. Do what you wanna do, don’t feel like you need to stick in the same circles and routines you used to. And if your medium isn’t entertaining to you anymore, just put it down. I don’t play games the way I used to, and that’s okay. I pick back up here and there, the same way I pick up my guitar, and the same way I’m thinking about strapping on the skates to play hockey again. And I’ve positioned myself in a way that I can do these things too, if I want. And if I don’t, I don’t.
Love ya OP. Go out there and have fun, that’s what I always say when anyone asks just about anything.

3·7 days agoThe constantly connected seem to have a tough time parsing available housing and homelessness. Like, there are 100 homeless and 200 houses, why problem?!

Yeah, they’re kinda getting a double whammy, and I’m interested in seeing the breakdown. People are definitely drinking much less these days, gen z are not big drinkers in comparison with how millennials were. And I also have no doubt the economy is playing its role as well.
