Well that’s sort of half right. Yes you can run the smaller models locally, but usually it’s the bigger models that we want to use. It would also be very slow on a typical gaming computer and even a high end gaming computer. To make it go faster not only is the hardware used in datacenters more optimised for the task, it’s also a lot faster. This is both a speed increase per unit as well as more units being used than you would normally find in a gaming PC.
Now these things aren’t magic, the basic technology is the same, so where does the speed come from? The answer is raw power, these things run insane amounts of power through them, with specialised cooling systems to keep them cool. This comes at the cost of efficiency.
So whilst running a model is much cheaper compared to training a model, it is far from free. And whilst you can run a smaller model on your home PC, it isn’t directly comparable to how it’s used in the datacenter. So the use of AI is still very power hungry, even when not counting the training.
Nah that article is about Venus being in a weird position where you can both see it around sunset and sunrise, usually it’s one or the other. Venus visible at noon is a no-go except in something like a solar eclipse or a high altitude balloon or something.
It is possible to spot Venus during the day, if it’s further away from the Sun (as viewed from Earth). It is bright enough to be visible during the day (just like the Moon and even the ISS and Jupiter under the right conditions), but is usually very close to the sun so it’s completely blown out. When it is further from the Sun, it’s a very noticeable crescent shape. So I doubt anyone would mistake it for a balloon, especially someone who has the job of watching the skies for such things.
And come to thing of it, how large did they think it was and how accurate can they shoot at long range with a boat? Even if it was a balloon, you wouldn’t attack it from range right? You would wait for it to come closer and hit it with anti aircraft shells. It’s just a very weird story.

Wait a minute, they shot at Venus around noon?
That makes no sense at all. Venus orbits closer to the Sun than Earth does. This means when looking at Venus we are always looking towards the Sun. For this reason Venus is very visible during sunrise or sunset (depending on the position of Venus), so the Sun is behind the horizon whilst Venus isn’t. As soon as the Sun gets above the horizon it becomes much harder to see Venus, because the Sun is much brighter in the sky and Venus is near it. When Venus is far away from the Sun, as we see it in our sky, it’s also a very pronounced crescent, so they wouldn’t mistake it for a balloon.
This sounds like a story someone made up somewhere, but has now been repeated so many times it’s hard to tell if it’s real or not.
Really? I never heard that before. What would they care about how their caps are? I can’t see it having any impact on them at all. A lot of people got pissed about it when Coca Cola was one of the first to change the caps in line with the regulation, so if anything it hurt Coca Cola.
Also even though large corporations are almost always totally evil, it’s not impossible for them to do something good as well. Probably not for the right reasons, but still, one thing doesn’t exclude the other.
Isn’t the proper technical term a “spaghet”?

Why does the second picture look like it’s rendered on PS3?
The monkey paw curls: all insects and other “bugs” are gone now, the food chain collapses bottom up and the human race is just about extinct within 10 years.
What did the doctor say? You may have a fungal infection, where the welts and itch aren’t caused by dryness or the scratching, but by the fungus. It’s actually really common and can be extremely annoying if left untreated. Some miconazole nitrate cream can really help out with this, just a few weeks of applying twice a day and it’ll clear up.
But never take medical advice from the internet, go see a doctor and ask them what to do.

I have heard Samsung is bad so often on the internet, but my personal experience is different. I’ve used a Samsung washing machine for almost 10 years now and it still works and looks like the day I bought it. It’s very easy to use, has a large front loader door, is quiet and power efficient (as far as that’s even possible with a washing machine). Never regretted it.
My brother also has a Samsung washer and dryer, because he loved how large the door was on my washing machine, so he bought one as well. It has served him fine for about 5 years now.
But hey, maybe I’m just lucky with the one I’ve got.
Before this one I had a Beko washer and dryer. I was unemployed at the time and didn’t have a lot of money, so I wanted a cheap model. The salesman in the store said it was bad (this was a long time ago, when they still had salesmen) and would break within a couple of years. But they did upsell an extended warranty for 5 years, which my mom paid for so I could afford to get the washer and dryer. Those units had served me very well for over 15 years. I did have to repair them a couple of times, but nothing major and some normal wear items. I sold those when I bought the Samsung as an upgrade. I switched to natural air drying instead of a dryer for environmental reasons, so I didn’t buy a new dryer.
