Yeah, like, what nation wouldn’t see this as an act of war if deployed on a targeted and continous scale?

Don’t forget about the Tarascan Empire!
You absolutely should! The Ghost in the Shell franchise(?) is best understood as a bunch of “similar universes.” SAC is one of several (and arguably the best imo).
Still excited for this adaptation though - more GitS is always good!

“Be the change you want to see in the world” is the only real solution to that problem. News aggregation is an easy thong because its relatively universal - niche hobbies are not by definition, so its kind of up to people to make them happen.

Having hobbies is all well and good, I have them as well, but to not think politics has an impact on quite literally everything in your life requiring therapy is…a take.
Stating that politics have an impact on everything is just a statement of fact.
In just the examples you gave, some sort of political situation has impacted them - the price of Legos, modern interpretations of ancient history (through the lens of modern political discourse and what lead to the fall of Rome as an easy example), media regulation/censorship, the list goes on. It is possible to recognize that these things are impacted and not “think about them all the time.”
Ultimately, places like Lemmy are largely news aggregators, so you are going to get a lot of stuff related to the news (i.e. politics). It’s a bit tough to discuss the “latest in dog walking” for any period if time to largely anonymous people online when compared to “US geopolitics” or “global conflicts,” because those things are ever evolving.

Yeah…
Alternatively, people seem to think that politics are some nebulous separate thing to their life, sort of like a hobby, when the reality is everything is political. Like, you cannot escape politics as a general rule (and arguably, nor should you try to), because it infects every aspect of a person’s life.

Pretty much. The American public needs to be reminded of what happens when we let corporate power grow unchecked and fall for the lies of demagogues.

We cannot hope to improve as a nation while sitting there huffing our own farts. I, for one, see a chance for this mess to be a catalyst for real change in this country.

I’m not super knowledgeable with how it works, but it is essentially a system for seamless jumps between multiple servers “meshing” them together so there is zero noticeable lag time between them. There isn’t a single loading screen going across multiple star systems, which is a pretty significant achievement, especially given how detailed the game itself is.
I’ve never played World of Warcraft or really any MMO, but it is my understanding that there are areas to load into new places (a short black screen on entering a building, a “portal” to another zone, etc.).

It definitely is actually “playable” now, and I’ve had a good amount of fun playing it this year, but it certainly isn’t ready for release or anything.
That said, the network infra they have created is pretty cool: 600+ player servers with relatively little issue, and the goal of 1000 long term is quite a feat of engineering.
They fucked themselves overpromising so much back at the beginning by giving the release dates they did while using like, Unity or something, and now they have the infra/engine to deliver, but nobody trusts them to actually do so.
Yeah…that definitely isn’t a nice thought :(
Never smoked weed or had a drop of alcohol here!
Honestly, your question is somewhat unsettling, as I’m not sure it is exactly healthy to only feel joy while under the influence of chemicals, so that might be something you should ask a medical professional about.
That said, surely you experienced joy as a child before using weed/alcohol at some point in your life, right? I guess in a lot of ways, I still feel that same spark of happiness or excitement I did when I was a kid. The things that sparked it may have changed somewhat, but the same feeling is there.

Neato!
As a lover of the Foundation series (probably read/listened to it all the way through half a dozen times by now) - it certainly isn’t the same as the books, but it is a pretty enjoyable watch nonetheless. There was definitely a lot of care put into building the world, and the time skipping adds a good bit of flavor, watching the decisions of the previous rulers echoing forward as the show progresses.
Perhaps not as culturally significant as the books, but certainly worth a watch imo

Not giving a hostile power control of 20% of the world’s grain supply is a good one.
Demonstration of American commitment to stopping its enemies worldwide is always handy.
Weakening of a major geopolitical enemy’s military capabilities for a fraction of the cost of a conventional war.
That’s just off the top of my head, though.
“Meh”
