I thought it was a sort of self-defence against being swindled, lied to, or otherwise taken advantage of by malicious thought patterns. Trying to use reason to communicate - especially with others who don’t share your commitment to reason - is insane.
If you dont try to be rational, you can get down to zero pretty quick.
