Spreading supply lines across a potentially hostile area of that size would be a nearly impossible task on its own… protecting all the industrial assets and natural ressources would be another.
I agree the US would be ungovernable. There are soo many critical infrastructure targets. You could cut off a region and then roll up any loyal fascist forces with hot and run attacks.
