he covered it up. So I was willing to look the other way, given he was a former Marine. Moot point now at anyrate.

I was willing to accept that he had changed. I mean in hindsight, and now knowing what we do, clearly that was less than true. BUT AGAIN WE DUMPED HIM so bullet dodged.
ahem (taps the Maine Dem Primary)
We were unaware of critical information at the time. Information that was clearly suppressed. Do however note that we kicked the guy to curb IMMEDIATELY upon finding out, so can we call that an “oopsie?” please.

1·11 hours agoI’d say you need a Stonewall moment, but perhaps a “sequel” is more apropos. It’s shameful. I’ll never understand the mentality that something so literally harmless as minding one’s own business get’s them so riled up. SMDH

22·23 hours agoI’ve been accused of transphobia in the past (wrongly, I should add), and even I understand that you are talking to the mind not the body. How is this such a hard concept for these people?

Technology@lemmy.world•Terrified Tech Execs Are Traveling With Armed Bodyguards as AI Backlash GrowsEnglish
5·23 hours agowhen you get enough people to agree to actually pack up their squeamishness concerning homicide to go through with calling it “manslaughter in self defence.” At that point it becomes one of three things depending on who leads the charge: A civil war if the sycophants to the system have enough firepower to empower “loyalists” to fight for them, A Revolt if the people elevate one of their own, (most likely a leader in some grassroots org) or a Revolution if there are enough people already in power to rally the troops so-to-speak. It can morph to one of others others at any point though. Of the three, Revolutions tend to be the fastest if conducted surgically with some sort of Coup-d’etat scenario.

TBF, I have a rather high tolerance because I was dropping 4 Zenias every 3 hours just to feel a nice buzz. I had a medical grade brownie once and that was a sweet spot.

2·3 days agothere was a guy that kept sending a bill to some tech companies accounting office, for the service of sending them a bill. The company paid it for years, then when they caught on, and sued, the guy used the fact that they had paid it for years as evidence of a de facto contract and won.

1·3 days agoWell it was the Beatles version of Led Zep 4 or Pink Floyd’s Dark side. Quite the fine record indeed. Really encapsulated the late Beatles sound that started with Rubber Soul, but wasn’t as pretentious as the White Album.

3·3 days agoMinimum wage reform, and inflation reduction.
Firstly, minimum wages mean nothing without corresponding maximum ones.
Minimum wages are a dog chasing its own tail. A business owner will never give themselves a pay cut to give you a pay raise. They will increase prices and pass the cost on to the consumer, which is you and me. Ergo, the cost of living goes up and we’re right back at the beginning in 15 months.
Constant “low inflation” is unsustainable because it fails the pragmatism test. In 100 years are our descendants going to find the fact we thought $100 was a substantial amount of money quaint? How about we actively dial this shit back so that our money actually has actual value again. Printing more money doesn’t make more money, it just makes the already existing supply worth less.
Closing the “infinite money hacks” that the wealthy use to dodge taxes is related to the last point. If you have the assets to cover aloan, the Bank should legally be forced to tell you to kick rocks. Force these cheats to liquidize their assets and pay capital gains taxes like the rest of us.
Restructure how currency is backed so that it has multiple standards, even if those standards are as ethereal as debt. I personally think currency should be backed by labor-time. Your labor generates a set amount of real, tradeable value, and as this is taxed, it pays down the Debt backed securities, keeping this type of Federal Exchange derived funds in check. This gives companies an incentive to pay you a living wage, and one where you can actually generate savings. (see point one if you are about to complain that this would turn into a runaway inflation system. Maximum wage, Remember? ;) )
CEO’s should be have their salaries tied to the lowest paid employees in their company. This should be expressed as a percentage. If the CEO wants to get a raise, they have to also have to float everyone else in the company first. Same with board members.
Overturn Citizens United. Over turn Dodge Brother vs Henry Ford. Give the Dodd/Frank act some actual teeth. White collar crimes get HARD jail time, not Fines that become Golden parachutes.
I think I could milk that for a good 20 minutes.

86·3 days agoI had to block most of the Bahjal instances because they are just a transfem echo chamber and refuse to listen to any viewpoint that is even one atom out of alignment with the idea that Trans people are the next evolution of humanity. I had to quit Imgur for a similar reason. Frustrating because I AM an Ally, just one that is also, ya know, a realist.
we really need to properly decriminalize so we can study these compounds. There was a study using some naturally derived psychotropics done in Brazil some years ago that showed promising benefits in reducing the mechanisms that activate PTSD triggers, for instance, but nothing ever really came of it, because of stigma surrounding the “recreational” uses.
Basically the study found that if you take a psychotropic shortly after the traumatizing event, it disrupts the amygdala’s ability to parse and store the memory in a way that becomes malignant. This makes it FAR easier to process the event through therapy, and outcomes were greatly improved.

I build on Vibes mostly. The idea to build a large sphere just kind of happened as I wanted my home to be sort of a mad scientist/wizard renovates a Gothic mansion “thing,” and I guess I kind of thought (subconsciously) that one of those plasma balls stuck on the back would be something a mad scientist/wizard would do. Then I got the bright idea to make it house my beacon for that extra accuracy to the lore. It ended up looking so good I just kind of riffed on the format for other builds in the base.
