Some people are tech savvy at a young age. And smart. Never discount the kids.

Even if you’re someone who drives every day there are perfectly serviceable used cars out there for $5000 whos remaining useful lifetimes outlast the repayment period of a new lease or loan.

infinitesunrise@slrpnk.netto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•New York did something absolutely incredibleEnglish30·9 hours agoThis might have been the hardest part of Mamdani’s fight, but the fight is far from over. Remember that he still has to beat Adams in the general election. And word is that Cuomo is far from done, he’s gathering support from millionaire / billionaire benefactors to either boost Adams or run in the general himself as another independent. Cuomo always ratfucks people, always has, be ready for something nasty. And personally I’m paranoid that the DNC will close ranks against him to endorse a challenger, similar to how they shut out Bernie against all popular support.
Keep fighting.
Edit: Cuomo just announced that he will be running in the general as an independent. Mexican standoff between The Good (Mamdani), The Bad (Adams), and The Ugly (Cuomo).

Look at how some folks are reacting English10·2 days agoSee that’s the thing. Not only is this a transit-forward city doing transit-forward zoning, the pictured comments are also just inventing an imagined issue. It’s actually not at all difficult to find parking in Portland. It’s very easy.

Look at how some folks are reacting English20·2 days agoNative portlanders are often a bunch of big babies when it comes to city life issues in a way that suggests they’ve never lived anywhere else. Parking is laughably simple to find in Portland, it’s fucking easy mode compared to any other city. Only core downtown is metered (Even then only business hours, and it’s only a few dollars), and there are no alternate side parking rules to speak of. Literally it’s easier to park in most Portland neighborhoods than it is in many suburbs.
Also most of these infill housing complexes are built close to transit, by design.

infinitesunrise@slrpnk.netto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•How to stop car terrorism. This was published in 1931. English1·7 days agoI’m pretty far out on the radical fringe, but this title is too sensationalized even for me.
Usually this is just an indicator that you aren’t actually on the radical fringe. Not trying to contradict your point or anything, but this is a sort of overton window-shifting rhetorical tactic that gets on my nerves because it actually works against a movement. Even if you didn’t realize you were doing it.
Regarding the opinion on terror rhetoric though, I do think it’s a fine strategy to call what cars do to our street like terrorism. It’s usually not definitional political terrorism (Usually), but the situation we have today required political choices which have resulted in actual terror on our streets. It’s a bold choice of words, and sometimes you have to be bold to hammer home a point.
And on that count… It should be “crash”, not “accident”. “Accident” partially aliviates blame and suggests an inevitability.
Alright, back into my pedantist cage.

infinitesunrise@slrpnk.netto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Who pays for roads? Most US States require residents to subsidize carsEnglish1·8 days agoI do think it’s important to reject the neoliberal demand that all services pay for themselves. I think a heat map showing percentages of local/state and federal funds spent on non-car transit infrastructure would be more useful and interesting. Or, a heat map showing the percentage of roads in each state which the state is currently able to afford upkeep on. As the big issue with our road funding model is that it’s easy to build, almost impossible to maintain.
Thought I had stumbled into a vore / feeder comm for a moment.
No but seriously he just announced that he’ll be running in the general as an independent. This meme is just straight-up analogy now.
