The more famous serial killers i barely remember even a bit of were described as social animals, charismatic and highly adept at manipulation.

Isn’t a serial killer defined as a murderer with at least 3 victims? Or have I fallen for TV culture

It is, but it’s different from a spree killer in that the killings are spaced out, and follow a specific methodology and victim type (although there are some exceptions).

Serial was used because when the term was coined serial movies were a thing, which is kinda like the equivalent of the limited series on streaming platforms now. Basically the killings were episodic.

If you averaged out every serial killer, you end up with someone that is remarkably just like me. I’ve learned this isn’t a bit of trivia to mention during job interviews.

Serial killers skew white, male, under middle age, have a developmental trauma, tend to work alone, have impulse control issue, lack of empathy and manipulative behavior. As compared to the general populace.

          Serial killers skew white

This is one of those times where racism strikes again. Serial killers also skew towards killing those like them, so guess what was ignored for a long time? Right, suspicious deaths of black individuals, meaning our ‘tracking’ of serial killers had some pretty large dearths.

That’s just because they picked it up from us Americans. Like the lions that learned gay sex.

Thanks for noticing. I was changing what I was thinking on the fly, going for something flippant and hopefully funny, kinda lost where I was initially going, and landed on a bit racist and bigoted. Alcohol may have also been involved, so I couldn’t work up the motivation to add in a few more groups without going all word salad, or over the top.

Yeah, but the problem is… You need to leave home to be a serial killer. Well, no wait. I mean to be a good one. I think if you kept inviting people to your house and killing them, it would be a bit of an easy trail to follow. So, being a successful serial killer is too much work.

I’ll do it tomorrow. Yeah, tomorrow.

I suspect this would change a bit, if you separate serial killers from mass shooters.

Serial killers need to plan out what they are doing, to not get caught. They can often hide behind a mask of charisma.

Mass shooters fit this quite well. It’s also the exact behaviour I would expect from someone trapped in an untenable situation. The pressure builds until something happens. In a few of those people, it is via anger and rage against those they feel wronged them.

1 group is likely naturally broken, to some degree. The other is broken by modern society.

That plus a brain defect that makes them think that ending a life is okay. All the other shuts-ins just play a lot of video games.
