I love using Brave browser… swipes away crypto ad banner …because there is a massive focus… swipes away crypto ad banner …on privacy….
So my options for iOS seem to be Libre Wolf Firefox Duck duck go
🤔
there’s no other real browser on ios, everything is just a gui reskin of safari. afaik there’s no benefit to using anything else.
Kinda true. On iOS all browsers have to use the safari core as browser engine, but you still get the Firefox layer on top, most importantly account sync.
Like if I’m on the toilet, see an article I wanna read on lemmy, but it has too many ads, I just send the tab to my PC and read it later. Also bookmark syncing comes in very handy for me.Fair, thanks for correcting me.
I have tried all the browsers that you can imagine and I stay with Firefox, it had catch me
What happened with /c/unix_surrealism?
Ran out of disk space, collecting donations to resume operations.
Why wouldn’t they leave a donation link on that page :<
I bet they don’t even have MBAs! How do they expect to optimize their revenue funnel and drive quarterly growth‽
Zen Browser kicks ass.
I don’t trust it.
Care to say why?
I don’t know the details fully but isn’t it like one Dev just patching Firefox? The whole Zen mod store seemed like an obvious vector for bad actors to me. What if he’s on vacation when a patch drops for a zero day?
Browser is one of the most important and critical aspects of your system that houses a massive amount of critical data…
I’m curious why, as a zen user myself. What would you suggest as an alternative?
Firefox
Appeared too quickly, with too much promise and not enough community time
Is this an ad
yeah, pepsi paid me $7 to post it here!
it’s the opposite
I’ve used Firefox based browsers for as long as I can remember and I’d rather slam my dick in a car door than switch to garbage like brave. Every single one of those browsers is the same bloated Google-flavoured bullshit wearing a different fucking clown costume. Firefox is the only browser that doesn’t make me feel like I’m being rawdogged by corporate spyware every time I open a tab… Piss on carpet !!
I thlammed my penith in the car door!
i thlammed my penith in the car door
I only use palemoon because it uses the best version of Firefox.
Yeah, I don’t do web stuff, but I use the browser every day for all the microsoft stuff my employer uses and it’s 99% LibreWolf and then 1% switching to Firefox ESR that cane preinstalled on debian.
If something didn’t work at that point, I’d probably fire up my Windows VM I use for testing before I’d install even chromium. I’ve installed it before but there’s just no need now.

Sooo… you claim Brave is created by an artist, a piece of Art, one may day?
Fuck brave browser, all my homies hate brave browser
My company’s ERP software doesn’t work well on Firefox unfortunately. So brave is the next best option for me. Other chromium based browsers only work with UBO Lite which is very limiting for the amount of filters I have imported. So for work I use Brave and for personal I use FF with betterfox user.js.
It’s cool that you get to do erotic role play professionally.
Anti-Chromium gang
How tables have turned. I went from FF to Chrome somewhere around 2009 just to move back in 2024. Fuck chromium.
Coward gang
(Jfc does anyone recognize word play or smth)
Im genuinely curious if you can explain your position further? How is avoiding it cowardice?
Evil brave
Avoiding Brave browser makes you part of a coward gang
Coward = very not Brave
A real man embraces vulnerabilities.
Love the word play. The logic is shakey lol
Firefox or GTFO.
thank you for sharing this non-existent content
my pleasure! be careful out there!
Out where?
Out of the environment of course.
good question!
I get Brave is still “chrome” I only use it on Android as most all android browsers suck or break in some way. On Linux (catchyos) I use https://zen-browser.app/
I have brave on Ios and if I’m correct it’s just using Apple’s safari webkit anyways. It’s been a few years since I compared browsers but back then it was the least shit, including firefox and firefox private.
Everything on Apple uses Safari webkit. I do not like apple. I was talking about android.
is this the one that requires you to log in? i tried one that looks just like that and i loved the design but forced sign-in is a deal breaker for me. how private can it be if it demands to know who i am?
So I should remove brave?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brave_(web_browser)#History might be worth a read
Wow I never really liked Brave, felt way too bloated, but this gives me reasons not to suggest it anymore.
I don’t understand. Why does Brave not exist? Is it because the developer is a chud? Fair enough. Is it because it’s Chrome? If so, does that apply to Vivaldi?
Can somebody explain something stupid to me? What exactly is wrong with Chromium? Does Google have backdoor access to anyone who’s running a Chromium based program or something?
What exactly is wrong with Chromium?
It gives Google hegemony over web standards.
They abuse the fuck out of their monopoly, basically.
They made changes to limit the usefulness of adblockers (Manifest V3), they tried to force a remote attestation API (WEI API) a few years back that would let them do stuff like fully block users who aren’t running locked-down operating systems from using online banking software or accessing Youtube, they added many chrome-specific web APIs that are extremely helpful for fingerprinting and lock users into the chrome ecosystem, etc.
And if you’re running stock chromium, there’s a fuckton of telemetry calling home to Google servers constantly.
And browser is such a complex piece of software that you cannot just fork it easily and change those things within a weekend with a bunch of unpaid volunteers.
So basicaly everything that made it through the android-google ecosystem also made it through chromium, is my take
They made changes to limit the usefulness of adblockers (Manifest V3)
Unless you’re using Brave :)
Lol actually
You can’t. It doesn’t exist.
As a web dev I hate the trend of websites relying on chromium-specific quirks, there are a handful of sites I need to use which refuse to work in any non-chromium browser, and customer support will always tell you to just use chrome as if you’re not a normal person for using Firefox. So yeah what’s wrong with chromium to me is that it’s the new internet explorer when it comes to web standards. Websites and large businesses can afford to just not care if they are following web standards as long as it works in chrome, and if you have a problem it’s your fault for not using chrome.
Yeah, we’re back to the days of websites only supporting Internet Explorer because of proprietary features and weird quirks.
That’s valid too. Thanks for pointing that out
This is why I switched from LibreWolf. If I had to have a Chromium browser installed as a backup anyway for few important sites, I might as well use Chromium. Imo Chromium has won. It owns the web landscape. I’ve given up
In technology, victory is fleeting.
Why don’t you at least use Ungoogled Chromium, Cromite, or Helium Browser? At least they prioritize security and privacy equally while not being tied to Ghoulgle.
@Chaunticleer this sums up many concerns (at least mine)
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/12/chrome-users-beware-manifest-v3-deceitful-and-threatening
Thank you
Yes but Brave is Chromium with functioning AdBlock
which you can get on any Chromium based browser, brave is nothing special in that regard. you can have functioning adblock with Vivaldi also.
Yeah but it’s the best chromium skin!
Chromium with crypto, spy and adware injected into it and its development led by an alt-right manchild? Hard disagree. Even the default Ungoogled Chromium easily tops Brave.

Cromite and Helium also top Brave.
no, because i’ve never seen it
It does not exist because it does not exist.
Hope that helps.
What’s the deal with Brave? Why are people against it?
The guy who made it has bad beliefs. It’s good software from what I can tell, and free as in speech and free as in beer, but if you use it you get his bad bigot cooties. You have to use free software by certified free range organic non-bigots or it rubs off on you I guess.
Never mind his politics, that asshole designed JavaScript!
Okay that gave me a good chuckle. But really with FOSS software it’s important to be aware of biases the developers might have. Sure if it’s an open source project, in theory I can audit the code but realistically not so much. If the lead developer is a known bad actor, then there’s reason to be paranoid about vulnerabilities or backdoors being injected into the codebase.
They do a ton of sketchy shit. I was skeptical, but this article convinced me.
If you need to use a Chromium browser, there are a shit-ton that aren’t Brave. I use Ungoogled Chromium.
Aside from the homophobia, Brave also runs an ad network so I’m skeptical about their privacy claims.
Brave was found altering links to some crypto services like Binance to include their referral and basically profit from unknowing users, they also run an ad network, they rely on Chromium, thereby endorsing Google’s dominance over the modern Web, they are very crypto-positive, which is a problem for many in the open-source community, and on top of that, everything else others have said.
Vigilink is the vendor they use to do this iirc. Link hijacking for referral revenue is wild thing to base a business on, but I’ve seen more sketch things running around the ad tech industry.
Brendan Eich. Specifically his stance against same sex marriage. He was pressured to resign from Mozilla, which he cofounded, due to his support of California’s prop 8. Then he founded Brave. The Brave browser also has some annoying crypto and AI features turned on by default. I think it’s a perfectly fine piece of software. I use it as a second browser.
It’s impossible to be good at programming and morality at the same time.
That’s why I never tried with either.
Their very shady history + their very bigoted owner + current shady tactics
Edit: and on top of that it’s Chromium based
i’m not against it, i just don’t believe it exists
