You guys should probably set up some sort of the government department to keep an eye on this.
This is more you should know if your in Georgia. America isn’t so tiny that this small of a recall is remotely fucking close to “if you are American”.

Look up where the recalls and violations have happened. Also, look up the cuts of meat.

I mean, definitely read the article, 167000 lbs, isn’t very much. I imagine that a certain area around north Carolina is affected, but not much more then that.
I think the best advice is to do both: check what meat if affected and whether that might include the meat you’re looking at. If you’re not sure, maybe skip meat for a change. You can do without.
I would assume officials warning this is a “nationwide” issue means exactly all of the US.
There are lot numbers for specific products, it’s not all meat and it’s not distributed evenly across the country.
There specifically is no list of lot numbers. There is a list of labels by the distributor, but the warning clearly states stores might have repackaged.
167 metric tonnes doesnt seem like that much in the grand scheme things, but ultimately that could at worst kill hundreds of people.

YSK Costco does independent testing of their meat.
I don’t want to like Costco, but they’re making it really hard.

Honestly my big Costco gripe is just that the sizes are awkward and big, but they aren’t really selling to businesses anymore… So like why? It would make sense to me if I were buying like cases or something that could be resold. I have a small family, so it’s always an exercise in creativity to use all of the produce and meat before it gets wasted. But if I bought less at a regular grocery store, I would almost always be paying more.
YSK California has the most stringent food safety regulations in the country, going above and beyond what the fed requires. Thank fuck I live here and not somewhere that does the bare minimum required of them (which, rn, is doing nothing at all).

Well it is and it isn’t. They have bought up all the packing plants creating a monopoly and an artificial constraint/bottle neck. So the billionaires set the prices which was already putting small ranchers out of business. Trump 2.0 has just exacerbated this process by making the inputs way more expensive.
And do what with it…? If it collapses like that, they have a worthless property.
It will never completely collapse. There will still be a demand for meat and now they can set whatever price they want because they control the entire supply.

Thing is, many of these things grow over time, and - especially with the active gutting of regulatory and oversight bodies - there’s a decent chance that the list isn’t comprehensive.
It’s also one of the reasons why I have avoided US meat products and grabbed stuff with a maple leaf instead, because it wasn’t hard to see this coming (and coming and coming)

You need to set your comfort level where it suits you, sure. However best to go into this informed with the actual available data. I’m not a vegetarian, but excessive meat waste really makes me cringe. Agree for future purposes, as with everything - avoid buying American (US) whenever possible.
This recall list is for things the grocery store or restaurants see, not consumer sized cuts. When was the last time you bought 30lbs of menudo mix?

The recalled meat could still have ended up in packages for consumers. What they’re saying is that you can’t know since retail stores would have cut up this meat and repackaged it.

They can tell you where meat is sourced and if their meat has been recalled. Im sure Walmart could do this but if not it’s time to find another butcher.
