I’m probably overreacting, but if I saw that I’d call up the office, ask why they wrote that, and probably look for a new doctor.

In what way is how I dress relevant? Unless I’m in a superman outfit with frills sewn in, why is it so important to write down judgemental and opinionated comments about the way I dress?

It could be a legit symptom. Missed buttons, clothes on backwards, mismatched shoes or socks, a dress with pants - all of that could indicate deeper issues where your brain is slipping gears. It’s a real symptom, and I think those exact words appear in the DSM

Or this doctor was just a judgemental asshole who has no idea what self expression is. The entire profession is based around pretending to know what’s going on, a lot of them are shockingly incompetent when you get past the jargon

      Your answer:

      Psychotic symptoms

Could be that it was “bad” enough a doctor thought it could have something to do with the diagnosis.

I once had a psychiatrist write that I was wearing “gender neutral clothing” in the sentence after stating I was “currently undergoing gender re-assignment from male to female”. I was wearing a pretty feminine sweater, skinny jeans and doc martens. It was hard not to see it as a dig at the fact I wasn’t wearing a dress or skirt, which is something that’s absolutely used to gatekeep trans women from transition related healthcare.

Ehhh maybe. Sounds to me like remnants of boomer culture of somehow the way another person dresses is a personal affront to them.

… What’s wrong with a Superman outfit with frills sewn in?

I only ask because, uh, I definitely never wore that to an event and, uh, especially definitely never proudly drew someone’s attention to it.

      For sure that never happened.

Well, depending on where I saw one, I might not even give it a second glance beyond “what was that? oh it’s a frilly superman outfit!”

for a doctor’s appointment? A bit odd, but you do you.
