So this is not about the bike making noise this is about bikers shouting back and forth to each other. On Cape cod in the USA there’s a bike trail that’s very popular with the tourists but they don’t understand that it basically goes through people’s backyards and I’ll just shout back and forth no matter what time of day it is

Schrodinger bike noise, it’s simultaneously too quiet and too loud until observed by a carbrain.

Only thing I can think of is the ridiculously loud free hubs that are way too popular on high end bikes now. Still way quieter than their beloved Aussie v8s, barras, etc

When I lived in Japan, apparently, somebody revved their motorcycle engine too much at night, and it was covered on the local TV news the next day. I guess they didn’t have any other sorts of local crime to present.

They genuinely don’t. My impression is the news is either how the train was 2 minutes late, or how tourists/foreigners are ruining the country.

It’s definitely about bunches of people out cycling for fitness in the early morning. Chatter is common in these bunches, both because it’s a fun social activity and because voices are really useful for communicating hazards etc.

For some reason the noise they make is deemed unacceptable while the noise of cars is perfectly ok.

I’ll turn off my ICU when cycling through this area. And brake a bit slower as well.

Every rule has a back story. You can easily imagine a bunch of kids yelling at each other as they bike down the street. But you cannot make a sign that says “punk kids not allowed”.
